Format


54-hole Stroke Play Championship.

All players will play 18-holes on Tuesday, August 22nd followed by a second 18-holes on Wednesday, August 23rd. Following the conclusion of Round 2, the field will be cut to the low 54 players & ties and all players within eight (8) strokes of the lead. 18-holes will be played on Thursday, August 24th to determine a Champion.

In the event of a tie for the Championship, a three (3) hole aggregate playoff will be held immediately following the conclusion of play. In the event of a tie after three holes, the tied players will immediately continue to playoff hole-by-hole until a champion is determined.

Eligibility


The competition is open to golfers who are:

1) Past MGA Open Champions.

2) PGA Members in good standing in the Metropolitan and New Jersey PGA Sections.

3) PGA Apprentices, employed at a golf facility in the MGA territory, who are enrolled in the Professional Golf Management (‘PGM’).

4) Head and Assistant Professionals at MGA Member Clubs. See below for definition of "Assistant Golf Professional".

5) Golf Professionals who are bona fide members, with full golfing privileges, at MGA Member Clubs, have a place of residence in the MGA territory, and an individual up-to-date Handicap Index based on ratings for men not exceeding 4.0 under the World Handicapping System. A Golf Professional may not join an MGA member club for the sole purpose of gaining entry to the Met Open.*

6) Amateur members and applicants for Amateur Reinstatement at MGA Member Clubs with an individual up-to-date Handicap Index based on ratings for men not exceeding 4.0 under the World Handicapping System.

7) Golf Professionals or Amateurs, 29 and under, in the immediate family of the Head Golf Professional, General Manager, and/or Head Golf Course Superintendent at MGA Member Clubs with an individual up-to-date Handicap Index based on ratings for men not exceeding 4.0 under the USGA Handicap System.

Golf Facility – the term “golf facility” shall include any golf course or golf practice range that is fully equipped to teach golf and demonstrate the use of all types of golf equipment and may include a golf shop adequate for the display and sale of golf equipment and apparel. This definition does not include any stand-alone retail golf specialty store or sporting goods store with golf department.

Assistant Golf Professional – the term “Assistant Golf Professional” shall mean a person regularly employed (minimum of 40 hours per week) by a golf professional (and paid by the golf professional or the club) in the category of teacher or shop assistant (which means spending at least 20 hours a week in duties of club repair, merchandising, maintaining handicap records, inventory control, bookkeeping, and tournament operations).

Employment – the term “Employment” as it pertains to Assistant Golf Professionals shall mean anyone employed at a Golf Facility, and such employment must be endorsed by the immediate supervisor at the Golf Facility.

* Professional golfers who are bona fide members with full golfing privileges at an MGA member club who meet the qualifications stated on this form and who wish to play in the Met Open Championship must submit an entry form along with a letter from the Club President (or Golf Chairman) verifying the nature of their membership and their place of residence.

Exception: Amateur golfers who have turned professional that have participated in MGA events based on membership in an MGA eClub, prior to turning Professional, and who have maintained membership in that eClub would be eligible to enter the Met Open Championship.

3. 25 lowest scores and ties in the 2022 Met Open Championship

5. 2023 Long Island and Westchester PGA Champions

6. 2022 NJ and Met PGA Section Champions, NJPGA Fall Finale Champion and MGA Senior Open Champion

7. 2023 Met Amateur and Ike Champions

8. 2023 NJSGA, NYSGA, CSGA, LIGA and WGA Amateur Champions

9. Past U.S. Open and PGA Champions

10. Top 3 on the 2022 MGA Player of the Year and the current leader on the 2023 MGA Player of the Year list as of entry deadline.

11. Top 5 on the 2022 Metropolitan and New Jersey PGA Section Player of the Year lists

12. Qualifiers for the 2023 U.S. Open and PGA Championships

13. 2023 NYS Open, NJPGA Charity Clambake, and NJPGA Match Play Champions

14. 2022 Hoffhine Memorial Champion

15. Top 500 in the Men’s World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) at the time of entry.

16. Top 500 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) at the time of entry.

17. Professional representative and current Club Champion at Championship Host Club - Arcola Country Club

18. Special Invitees of the MGA Executive Committee
