ABOUT OFWW
OFWW Basics (How It Works)
OFWW is an organization of about 200 retired men golfers. Playdays occur on Tuesday and Thursday mornings beginning at 7:30 am (7:00 am in summer months) and continue until everyone has teed off, generally around 9:00 am. The number of golfers varies but is usually between 40 and 60 per playday.
To participate in any given playday, members can sign up in advance or just show up the morning they wish to play. Beginning at 5.00 am, on the Friday prior to the Tuesday Playday (Sunday for Thursday Playday), a member may sign up for himself and up to three other members (while not encouraged so as to meet/play with other OFWW members) through a link to Google Sheets that is sent to every OFWW member by email.
See the Playday Sign Up Procedure link for more details.
Many OFWW members also participate in the North Houston Retired Senior Men’s Golf Association (Interclub), which is a tournament competition between various golf clubs in north Houston area. Since so many of our members participate in this competition, during the interclub season, Thursday playdays are more informal and have fewer participants.
On regular playdays, each foursome has a volunteer score keeper for the round who will enter the score of each participant into the Golf Genius App on your smartphone. Following the golf round each player will be charged the Playday entry fee and the foursome’s scores are reported to the league scorer. For this competition, players are grouped by handicap; low, mid and high, and a payout for low scores and skins is awarded for each grouping by way of Club credit. See the link to Playday Scoring Procedure for more details
In addition to playdays, once each month OFWW has a shotgun start tournament called the “Bash” which features a team competition. Players sign up as individuals and are assigned to teams by the tournament chairman. Formats for the tournament vary by month. Entry fees are charged to participants’ club account. Prizes are paid to winning teams in the form of Club credit.
In addition to the above, if an OFWW member on the Hole in One list makes a Hole in One in a “full field” OFWW event, monies in the Hole-In-One pot will be issued to that member’s Credit account. See link to Hole in One Pot for more details.
OFWW is always glad to welcome new members and it is a great way to meet and play with other ‘retired’ members of the Club.
