Secretary Communications Jack Alexander
No issues to report.
Tournaments Stan Coburn
Stan reported that Chris told him that the Club does want to let us have a Bash on a weekday in July. The club is still worried about having course availability as they continue to remediate the bunkers. Stan, David and Brent will visit Chris and Patrick and ask the club to let us have a weekday Bash or perhaps a weekend day Bash.
Stan suggested that we have a breakfast buffet at the November annual meeting instead of the simple tacos. The Board agreed with the suggestion and Stan will follow up in September for pricing.
Interclub Patrick Freeh and Joe Blankenship
Patrick reported that the Lake team continues to have difficulties getting 20 players to sign up for Interclub matches. Patrick will follow up with Joe about whether we can rebalance the teams a bit and maybe there are some Marsh team players that might want to switch to the Lake team. Patrick will also follow up with the Interclub President about whether players can switch team mid-season.
Patrick and the Board members will continue to work on recruiting more players to join one of our Interclub teams.
Vice President Alex Mentakis
Alex was absent but he sent the Board a note that he has been receiving feedback from the members that they like how we are setting the flight sizes and the payouts for our play days.
Golf Genius and Membership Brent Johnston
Brent reported that we currently have 211 members.
Brent has done some cursory analysis that shows we have about 50 members who have not participated in an OFWW event in the last 3 years. He solicited feedback from the Board about whether we should consider those members as inactive and delete their membership before the 2025 dues are processed. Brent will do some additional analysis and provide some additional information for the Board to review and decide on a course of action by September.
Stan and some others discussed some options for creating some additional tee times between 9:30 and noon for those players who want to play later in the morning. In previous discussion with Chris and others the Club seems to want to limit our tee times to approximately 17 slots. We talked about maybe giving up some slots in the 9-9:30 range and adding some slots to at least 10 am or later. Brent, David and Stan will follow up with Chris.
Brent reported that he is almost ready to roll out a Golf Genius enhancement that will allow players to change their tee boxes on the on the morning of the round to play either white, silver or the combo tees. This was considered a good enhancement.
Jack commented that he notices players who claim they cannot log into Golf Genius and either refuse to do it or must ask the starter for the GGID # for the round. We want to make things easy for the members. We talked about issues around resetting password or not being properly registered. Brent is going to check on some things and offered to provide training or assistance so that everyone can get logged on.
Financial Marty Blick
Marty reported that the financial condition of the OFWW is strong. Our cash balance at the end of May consisted of $919 in the X2302 account and $10,544 in our Chase account. Marty provided a projection of spending for the remainder of the year including annual meeting and holiday social of $5,550 and suggested the Board might want to add a lunch or two with our future Bash’s. Stan will review the schedule and make some recommendations.
President David Wenner
David provided updates from the Club golf committee. The Club is continuing to close individual courses for a week at a time to facilitate repairs and maintenance to the Bunkers and other areas from the floods we had. David also reported that the Golf Committee is asking the different groups for suggesting about the MGA tournaments and outings and how they might improve attendance. The Board discussed some of the issues they see including high entrance fees and a dislike for the gross scoring components as well as fair play issues around player handicaps. The Board concluded that the OFWW will not push MGA tournament participation to our members and does not want to get involved with MGA tournament issues.
Member at Large Giles de Beaumont
Giles talked about some ideas on how to encourage participation in our events and how to get new members. He proposed adding a member guest component to some of our Bash’s. The Board liked the idea and discussed some of the issues with adding guests. 2 big issues are how to handle the handicaps for guests without a GHIN number and what green and cart fee the club will charge. David, Brent and or Stan will follow up with Chris on the fees to charge and Stan will think about some member guest formats that might work.
Other
The Board members thanked David for putting together our two play day groups and the lunch meeting afterwards. The Board members enjoyed the golf and suggested we might think about doing it once or twice a year in the future.
