  1. Structure of Competition
  1. The Championships are contested in two stages:
    1. Qualifying rounds which will take place in each Region in September or October at the start of each academic year
    2. The Championship Final, which takes place in April each year, at the conclusion of the academic year
  2. 4 categories of entrants:
  1. Senior Girls (Under-19 in the year of the Championship final; maximum H.I. of 39.9)
  2. Senior Boys (Under-19 in the year of the Championship final; maximum H.I. of 19.9)
  3. Junior Girls (Under-16 in the year of the Championship final; maximum H.I. of 39.9)
  4. Junior Boys (Under-16 in the year of the Championship final; maximum H.I. of 28.0)

  1. Qualifying Round
  1. Qualifying rounds in each category will take place in each region, organized where possible in each Competition Area.
  2. The number of individual qualifying positions in each qualifying location will be confirmed once all entries are received. Each qualifying round will have at least one qualifying place for the All-Ireland Final, with other places allocated on a pro-rata basis so that there are 24 nationwide individual qualifiers in each category.
  3. In the event of an undersubscription of one gender and an oversubscription of the other, additional places will be given to the oversubscribed gender. In the event of an oversubscription of both genders, a waiting list will be drawn up based on handicap index at the close of entries.
  4. In the Boys’ and Girls’ Junior Championship Qualifying Rounds, qualification for the All-Ireland Finals will be determined on the basis of the best net stableford score(s).
  5. In the Boys’ and Girls’ Senior Championship Qualifying Rounds, qualification will be determined on the basis of the best gross stableford score(s). There will, however, be a net prize for the best net score on the day of the Qualifying Round.
  6. In all four competitions, schools with more than one representative may form a team or teams. Teams will consist of either two or three players, with two scores to count. A school may enter an unlimited number of teams.
  7. In addition to the qualifiers above, all players on the winning team in each qualifying venue will advance to the Championship Final, where they will participate as both individuals and as members of that qualifying team. In the Senior Championships for Boys and Girls, the best gross team score will qualify for the final. (Note – if a player has already qualified as an individual, no additional qualification places will be allocated to the individual competition; likewise if all 2/3 players in the winning team have qualified as individuals, no additional places will be awarded for extra individuals or teams).
  8. Prizes in the Qualifying Round will be awarded for the best individual score and best team score.

  1. Championship Final
  1. The field for the Championship Final will consist of at least 96 players (24 from each category individually qualifying, plus the members of any teams who also qualified through the Regional Qualifying Round).
  2. No substitutions will be permitted in the team members who qualified in the Regional Qualifying Round.
  3. The form of play and scoring for each category will be the same as for the Qualifying Round. However, scores will not carry forward in any way.
  4. In each category, gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the leading individual players (gross or net as applicable) and a national pennant and medals will be awarded to the winning team. All competitors will be eligible to win any individual award in the national finals irrespective of how they qualified. I.E. example a) a gross qualifier could win a net category award, and vice versa; example b) a team qualifier who did not finish in the top-three in the Junior championship or top-two gross or net in the senior championship will still be eligible to win an individual award at the national final.
