Welcome to the 2024 Trans-Murray Matchplay Event.

This event is always one of our most fun and action-packed tournaments, so we are thrilled to have you on board!

As with the famous Ryder Cup, play will take place over three days with three formats. We will have a day of pairs playing 2-Ball Ambrose Matchplay, a day of pairs playing a hybrid Foursomes/Ambrose format (“TMMP Foursomes”) and the final day of singles matchplay. The team with the most matches won over the three days will be crowned champions.

See Above Tabs/Menu for all relevant information of the week.

Team Captains announcement

We are delighted to announce that the captains for the teams in 2024 are John Waltis (North) and Jodene Tuau (South) . Not only are they both past attendees and great supporters of this event, but they also embody the spirit of good cameraderie borne from the fun nature of the TMMP. We ask that you all follow their lead in having a great matchplay event played across state lines. We want to extend our thanks to them both for helping us foster a culture of respect between the teams – we know that only one team will take home the medals, but everyone playing can enjoy the experience, the competition, the fun and the friendship that this event delivers every year.

Group Photo in Team Apparel before tee-off

Format: Two-Ball Ambrose Matchplay – Teams of two playing Two-ball Ambrose Matchplay. Each Ambrose pair posts a stroke score for each hole and the best stroke score wins the hole. If the stroke score from each team is the same, the hole is halved. If the two teams have the same handicap, they play off scratch together. If a team has one more shot on handicap, they get a shot on the hardest hole. Two shots difference = a shot on the two hardest holes and so on. SGA will aim to match teams with similar handicaps in the draw so there are very few shots given.

NOTE: This year, we are excited to be playing the Yarralumla Layout (Holes 10-27). This is different from previous years, with holes 19-27 being new to SGA. Note that holes 21-26 are across the road, and with the event being a shotgun start, players who are in carts will be starting on those holes.

Friday, 9th February

Gold Creek  - 9:30am - Shotgun Start

Format: Pairs Alternate Shot (Modified) – Each player from both teams tees off and team-mates then swap balls and hit their partner’s ball for the second shot. After two shots, the best ball of the two is chosen. From there, the player who did not hit the last shot plays a shot and the ball is played in alternate shot format (as in foursomes) from there on until the ball is holed.

This means that the ball that is played from the tee to the hole was hit alternately by the two team-mates throughout the hole. On all shots, preferred lie within one hand-span is in play in all cuts (fairway, rough, green etc.) This means if players are precious about playing their own brand of ball, they can switch to their own ball for all their shots on the hole.

Handicaps are calculated by adding the two daily handicaps and dividing by two. If teams have the same handicap, they play off scratch together. If a team has one shot on handicap, they get a shot on the hardest hole on the matchplay index and so on. Team captains will aim to match teams with similar handicaps so there are very few shots given. The team with the lowest nett stroke score wins the hole.

AFTER GOLF ON FRIDAY - Mantra Bar - Post-golf drinks and nibbles. 4:30-7:00 pm

SGA will be hosting a small function in the Mantra Bar after golf.  SGA will be hosting some nibbles (Spring rolls, Samosas and Chips), and there will be a variety of beverages (Beer, Wine and Soft Drinks) available for purchase.

Saturday, 10th February

Gungahlin Lakes - 11.38am and 12:53pm - 2 tee Start
