2024 Trans-Murray Matchplay
Canberra, ACT
February 8-10, 2024
Welcome to the 11th annual Trans-Murray Match Play.
The Trans-Murray Matchplay is a unique event for golfers who embrace the spirit of fun and enjoyment of the game and its people. It is an official matchplay tournament played according to the rules of golf with respect to the traditions and etiquette of the game and with an emphasis on enjoying the challenge of the game in good spirit & sportsmanship with a dash of socialising throughout.
The TMMP was born in 2014, when a little friendly sledging (and a pinch of interstate rivalry) between a few NSW & Vic SGA Tour players turned into a hilarious game of one-up-man-ship. As the claims on supremacy became more outrageous, it very quickly became clear that there was only one place to settle the matter – on the golf course.
With a large gang of SGA players already planning to play in the 2014 Kelly Gang Shootout in Cobram-Barooga, the idea was floated to have a friendly one-day matchplay contest on the Friday arvo to settle the matter once and for all. Thus the TMMP was born.
The following year, the first three-day version of this now illustrious event took place in Canberra. The event continued to grow over the years—contested in locations across NSW and VIC—and in 2018, due to increasing requests from golfers further afield, the teams were adjusted to “North vs South of the Murray”.
While the NSW/North teams have come out on top more often by winning all the close ones, over the years the event has always been played with the same passion, fun, sportsmanship and mateship that is the cornerstone of the TMMP as well as all SGA Major events.
For 2024, we are delighted to announce that the team captains are: John Waltis (Team North) and Jodene Tuau (Team South).
Not only are they both past attendees and great supporters of this event, but they also embody the spirit of camaraderie borne from the fun nature of the TMMP. We ask that you all follow their lead in having a great matchplay event played across state lines and with a premium on sportsmanship & fun.
We also want to extend our thanks to them both for helping us foster a culture of respect between the teams – we know that only one team will take home the medals, but everyone playing can enjoy the experience, the competition, the fun and the friendship that this event delivers every year.
We look forward to a brilliant weekend of golf with a super collection of people representing both sides of the Murray and we sincerely hope the event is another enjoyable and memorable one.
Best regards and good golfing
The SGA Team
