2023 WEDNESDAY DAY LADIES’ LEAGUE (18 Holes)

Greetings!  I hope you have all remained well and have had an adventurous late fall and winter. Now, let’s talk about the upcoming golf season!

 

Welcome back to all returning players and welcome aboard to those who may be new to our League this year.

As you may know, Ladies’ League at Valley Ridge is non-profit and run by volunteers for the enjoyment and encouragement of Ladies golf. All fees collected for Ladies’ League are used to cover the costs of weekly prizes and the closing Tombstone Tournament meals and prizes.

 

All female Members of Valley Ridge, Principal and Spousal are welcome and encouraged to join us. Non-VR members are also welcome, but some experience playing and a current handicap are required. As we all know, Valley Ridge can be a very challenging course and pace of play is important.

 

SEASON SCHEDULE:

• League Registration Opens – SATURDAY, APRIL 1/2023 at 9:00am
• Valley Ridge Fashion Show – WEDNESDAY, APRIL 26/2023 at 5:00pm
• Wednesday League Play Begins – MAY 3RD and Ends SEPTEMBER 27
• New “Bring a Friend” Event- WEDNESDAY, JUNE 28, 2023
• Annual Ladies’ League Open Tournament – WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 16,2023
• Annual Tombstone Closing Tournament – WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2023

 

2023 WEDNESDAY DAY LADIES’ LEAGUE FEES:

Members:  - $125.00                        Non Members:  - $200.00     

Tombstone Tournament, Ringer Board & Birdie Tree are included in the league fees.

 

NON-MEMBER GREEN FEE OPTIONS:

Option 1: Purchase 12 x 18 Hole Green Fees  - $780.00 plus GST.  Valid ONLY for Wednesday League Days. Best Value!

Option 2: Weekly Green Fee Rate - $72.00 plus GST

 

REGISTRATION THROUGH GOLF GENIUS:

All registration forms and fee payments will be completed through the Golf Genius system. If you don’t already have it, you will need to download the FREE GOLF GENIUS APP.

• Search ‘Golf Genius’ from wherever you download your Apps to find it. (It is an orange Icon with a globe of the world sitting on top of a tee.)
• Registration is NOT done from the APP; it is completed through the link that will be provided. It is important that you enter your email address and phone number when you register to receive communications, such as tee time confirmations and text messages that link to the Golf Genius APP.
• For Non-members, included in your fees are the use of pull carts, driving range balls and the practice green. Your payment is confirmation of your registration in the League.
• Registration will be limited to 12 Non-Members for 2023, waitlist will be established once it is full.

 

GOLF CANADA MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED:

EVERYONE in the Wednesday League is required to maintain a current Handicap through Golf Canada for 2023. This means that ALL of your rounds played ALL season long, at ANY course,must be entered on a timely basis every time you play, to keep your handicap current. Scores for rounds played on Wednesdays will automatically be entered in the Golf Canada system through Golf Genius.   Golf Canada fees for members are paid by Valley Ridge through our annual dues. Non-members may purchase a Golf Canada Membership when registering for the league or through the Golf Shop at a cost of $40.00 plus GST.

 

19th HOLE TEE POT DRAW:

We will continue with the 19th Hole 50/50 Tee Pot Draw.  If you choose to buy in, the upfront price is $100. There will NOT be an option to participate on a weekly basis. The draw will be done and the results posted at the conclusion of each weekly Wednesday League.  Like last year, Monday Evening Ladies League had a separate Tee Pot Draw. Those who play in both leagues need to pay upfront fees separately if they wish to participate in both draws. Participants will not be required to be present for each draw (the only requirement is to pre-register for the draw at registration), and everyone will receive a weekly email confirming draw and league winnings. Please join us because all revenue goes back into the league for more prizing and towards our tournaments. The more who participate, the larger the pot! This year prize money will be awarded in the form of a VR gift card.  Good luck!

 

WEEKLY SIGN-UP AND TEE TIMES:

In May, the day league will commence at approximately 9:00am. As the days get longer, we will move to approximately 8:30am starts for most of the season and then move back to later starts around 9:00am in September, when the days get shorter and cooler again. All registrants will receive an email with an ‘invitation to play’ every week, one week prior to the scheduled date of league play. Special requests for an early or late tee time may be made by messaging the ladies executive through the league portal before that coming Friday. Sign up will close every week at 6pm on Friday for Wednesday League and tee time confirmations will be sent out Saturday with a link to the Ladies Portal and Draw - there are no guarantees that there will be spots available if you fail to sign up by 6pm on Friday. If you must cancel or missed signing up, and the confirmation email has been sent out, please call the Pro Shop at 403-221-9682 to determine if there are any tee time spots available for Wednesday.

 

MAXIMUM SCORES PER HOLE:

For the purposes of Ladies’ League and in the interest of timely play, we have always had a maximum score on any hole. When you reach these maximums, please pick up and move on to the next hole. This year will remain the same as last year; Double Par Plus 1:

   On a Par 3 Hole the Maximum will be 3 x 2 (6) + 1 for a maximum of 7

   On a Par 4 Hole the Maximum will be 4 X 2 (8) + 1 for a maximum of 9

   On a Par 5 Hole the Maximum will be 5 x 2 (10) + 1 for a maximum of 11

  

GUESTS:

Those registered in the league for the season are welcome to invite a guest. The fee for a guest is $10 for the day (to Ladies’ League) plus their green fees. Send a message to the manager and we will enter your pairing manually so you play with your guest that day. Because we require everyone registered in the Wednesday League to have and maintain a Golf Canada Handicap, only those guests with a registered Golf Canada Handicap are eligible for weekly prizes.

 

RINGER BOARD AND BIRDIE TREE:

The Golf Genius system will once again keep season long statistics for the Ringer Board and Birdie Tree and prizes will be awarded at the end of the season on September 27. This information will be available to view at any time on the GG App. For those unfamiliar, a Ringer Board is a season long tabulation of your best score on each hole. Birdies are also tracked each Wednesday and at the end of the season, draws are made for prizes from those who had Birdies throughout the year.

 

PRIZES:

Weekly prizes will be awarded for Members and Non-members in the form of a Gift Card that can be used towards purchases in the Pro Shop or Mulligans Restaurant.

 

WEDNESDAY DAY LEAGUE CLOSING TOMBSTONE TOURNAMENT:

Scheduled for Wednesday, September 6th, 2023, the closing tournament is played in our usual tee times beginning around 9:00am. Included in your Ladies’ League fees, are your meal and all prizes for this tournament when everyone is in.

 

VALLEY RIDGE ANNUAL LADIES LEAGUE OPEN TOURNAMENT:

Scheduled for Wednesday, August 16th, 2023. This 18 Hole tournament is organized by our very own, Titia and Chris. It is open to all members & non-members. You can sign up as an individual, 2some or 3some or 4some. It is a fun day of golf and this year the theme will be ‘Back To The 80's’. Many dress up and/or decorate our carts, but it’s not required.  Generally, the tournament is a 9:00am shotgun start.  Fees cover your meal and tournament prizes. Non-VR members will also be required to pay the reduced Wednesday Ladies League green fees.  More details will be made available in the spring.

 

CHAMPS:

Please consider signing up for CHAMPS. It is a great opportunity to play at another course within Calgary or the surrounding area for FREE. You must be a member of Valley Ridge in order to participate. Please contact Cheri Stanzeleit if you would like to become a CHAMPer. The season usually starts around mid May.

 

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The social aspect has always been a HUGE part of our League. Most league members will gather in the clubhouse for lunch and drinks following their round, and will be encouraged to stay for results presentations.
