I deleted the weekly email, how do I sign-up for an event?
No, problem as a OHMGA member, you just click the little house at top of the website and your current registrations are available. You can sign-up any time you want before the deadline each week.
Once we finish the tournament round, do I need to input these scores into GHIN?
No, you do not. We will input the score to GHIN via Golf Genius once verified.
How long do I have to sign up for the next week’s tournament?
Typically, you will have Tuesday through Sunday before the next week’s tournament to sign-up. As an example, let’s say you are thinking of playing in the tournament from April 11th (Tuesday) through April 16th (Sunday). We will open sign up between April 3rd through April 9th at 6 pm to sign up for the following week. Most people especially those who play on the weekend have signed up for a tee time many days in advance, so many people know or have an idea when they plan to or can play.
If I win an event, what do I need to do?
If you win an event, we will send you an e-mail seeking simple verification that your scores were attested by your playing partner. As an example, a reply as simple as "yes, verified by John Golfer" will suffice. We typically will verify scores within two days and we will post monetary results and point standings no later than Tuesday of the following week.
However, if you don't reply by the deadline, typically within two days of request, then you might be disqualified, and the next place person will assume one of the winning spots.
Why do we need a week to sign up for an event, can’t we do it later?
We would love to do it later, but Oak Hills Men’s League has honestly one of the most liberal playing schedules for any other local or countrywide Men’s & Women’s Golf League. Most leagues close sign up, at a minimum, two days with some a full week before the event starts. We are closing sign up for the shortest time, two days minimum (Sunday), prior to when people can start play on Tuesday.
Can one person sign up for our foursome, twosome, threesome?
The good news is yes. Just like one person gets the tee times for the weekly group, one person can sign up for weekly tournament play. If you decide to do this, when the weekly email requests if you want to participate, then Player A can sign up Player B, Player C and Player D or whatever number plans to play. The other members do NOT need to press the “I will participate” email because you are already signed up by Player A. See question below with more details.
I am new to the club, how can I get a game?
There is three things we encourage you to do: 1) Call the Pro Shop because they see if there are open tee times with members; 2) Send a group email and ask for a game, just send an email to oakhillsmens@gmail.com and we can send you the group email address, 3) Go to our member directory and see who you might know to partner up. Our group is very social, so you will absolutely find a game!
Do I have to say who I am playing with?
No, not anymore. We did this so we could pair your group which allowed you to do group scoring. You can do this yourself by having one person sign up everyone in their group and if you say their play with you (the Host), then you will be paired automatically. If you sign up by yourself, then when entering scores you will only be able to input yourself. You still need to have someone in your group attest your scores at the end of the round.
Do I also need to tell you the actual date we are playing? Why? Why? C’mon Why?
Yes, this is a money tournament and people on the weekends pretty much are locked in when they will play. We want a record of when you expect to play. You need to set up tee times in advance and since you need to play with another member, we want you to plan in advance, especially since many get tee times in advance. Declaring when you have to play in advance is fair, it’s a tournament with money on the line. We are very sensitive to this topic because when we surveyed the group this topic (accountability/fairness) was top of mind for literally everyone in the league.
Well, can I change the date I plan to play?
Yes, of course. Life happens and things occur, so yes you can change the expected date you plan to play. It will happen times during the year. However, you CANNOT start to play and then stop and play the same tournament another day. It is NOT acceptable, it’s not fair to the field. So, if you say in advance BEFORE you play, that you plan to change the date, there is absolutely zero problem.
But I don’t know my schedule all the time why can’t I get pure flexibility?
You do have flexibility and we get it; stuff happens. However, 90-95% of time you’ll set things up and you’ll play. One of the reasons we do is because so much flexibility, most other leagues play weekends or some only on one day. Will it rain at times yeah, will I need to let the cable guy in, yeah, will my wife say you’re not playing today, yeah? Stuff happens but we are planning for the norm and not the exception.
Do I need to sign into the Golf Genius app if I am not playing?
No, the only time you need to use the app is when scoring or looking at the leaderboard. As we originally thought, we decided to move to IDs and passwords because we found it more efficient.
Ok, how will we monitor if people start and play another day?
We ask that you start the process to score your round even if you decide to input your scores at the end of the round. So, at the beginning of tournament play, just input your GGID and if you decide to score later, put your phone away. We now have a record that you started to play and when, plus an audit trail for the team. This should not be a big deal, because you must input scores after your round anyway, so just inputting your GGID before you play should not be a big deal at all. Also for those who remember, this is similar to needing to go grab the blue card before scoring your round, except this is even easier. If you can’t do this very minimal ask. then you risk disqualification, when we do spot auditing for that week’s event because money is on the line, and we want to be fair to all people in the field.
Yes, we trust you all, but we also listened to you all as well, about monitoring the field.
