Introducing the 2023 Tapps Cup

The Tapps Cup will be an annual event taking place after the regular season (i.e. after the Club Championship). Golfers will compete throughout the season to earn a spot in this special event that pits Island golfers against non-Island golfers.

This year’s Cup will be a one-day, 27-hole event held on Saturday, September 23, 2023. Even if you do not qualify for the event, spectators are encouraged to follow along and watch the action.

The Format:

  • 12 golfers on each team: The Islanders and the Off-Islanders.

  • 9 holes of 2v2 Scramble Match Play (no handicaps)

  • 9 holes of 2v2 Best Ball Match Play (75% handicaps)

  • 9 holes of 1v1 Match Play (full handicaps)

How to Qualify:

  • The following six golfers will earn an automatic berth:

    • Top 2 finalists from the season-long Match Play

    • Gross winner and Net winner from the Stroke Play Qualifier on July 9th

    • Gross winner and Net winner from the Club Championship

  • Two “Captain’s Picks” for each team. Golfers must be in the Top 25 money leaders to be eligible for a captain’s pick.

  • The remaining spots will be filled from the top money leaders for the 2023 season. Money earned from the following events will count toward qualifying (excluding skins money):

    • All Wednesday league events excluding the horse races

    • 3 Club Stroke Play on 3/25/2023

    • Masters Tournament on 4/8/2023

    • Modified Stableford on 4/23/2023

The Captains (co-captains):

  • Off-Islanders: Dustin Hegge & Travis Russo

  • Islanders: Ken Gary & Luan Nguyen

  • Captains do NOT automatically qualify to play. If a captain misses qualification, they’ll be a non-playing captain cheering on their team from the sidelines.

  • For future years, the top money leader on either team will have the option to be the Captain for the following year’s Tapps Cup.
