The 2023 Horse Race Field

#1. GIDDYUP Gal (Carol Feller)

Jockey & Trainer:  Kathy Deitz

As a winner in her first Horse Race in 2020, past champion Whoa Thar Nellie is debuting both her new name and sleek physique this year.  Can her returning jockey control this feisty filly to recreate the magic for a second win?

#2. FAIRWAY TO HEAVEN (Corinne Sorge)

Jockey & Trainer:  Connie Schilhab

The inaugural Horse Race champion is considered by bettors to be a serious threat in all race conditions.  But can this storied mare and, I’m-A-Party sidekick, keep their heads about them, put on their blinkers and outrun the field to bring home the roses?

#3. IN THE ROUGH (Carrie Faulkner)

Jockey & Trainer:  Loretta Ilges

This popular mid-life mare is firing on all cylinders and hitting her stride this season.  Coming off her recent stable championship, her only handicap may be her one-eyed jockey.  Can this team harness their collective talents to stay “on-the-track” and can her jockey hold on for dear life down the stretch?

#4. BEE JAY III (Bette McDermott)

Jockey & Trainer:  Lori Robertson

This pedigreed and well-known team is as boisterous as ever and known for late night dance parties at the stable.  Steady as she goes is the plan - but can this team cinch down the saddle, focus on the present and methodically pick off their competition to a photo finish?

#5. CATCH UP (Joan Rendl)

Jockey & Trainer:  Susan Sowyrda

This stable President is known as cool, calm and collected around the paddock.  Though a relative newcomer to racing, her improved form allows her to run-like-the-wind.  Will she snatch the roses from this illustrious field?

#6. PADUCAH PRIDE (Karen Buchler)

Jockey & Trainer:  Angie Swanagon

Coming off a spectacular win last year, the stable bookies have their money on this proven champion.  Teamed with a professional jockey, can this returning winner scorch the back stretch again for a repeat win?

#7. SWAYBACK (Kristen Shelton)

Jockey & Trainer:  Brenda Candelet

This well-known and easy-going filly is known as the social organizer of the stable.  With her colorful jockey she is the odds-on favorite to make a strong break out of the gate, persevere on the backstretch and nose out the field.

#8. ANNABELLE (Mary Ann Wussow)

Jockey & Trainer:  Debby Liddell

Returning for a 5th Run for the Roses, this treasured mare is a strong bet for Win, Place or Show. Will this seasoned team strategize to set the pace early and outrun the pack or lurk in the middle and make a late charge to the winner’s circle?

#9. BRIDLED BRADLEY (Debbie Bradley)

Jockey & Trainer:  Jane Erwin

Making a comeback from her unbridled past, this mare has matured into a buff, laser-focused underdog.  Can this experienced team keep their wits about them, stick to their race plan and power up the pace for a mad dash to the wire?

#10. LILY’S GIN & TONIC (Brenda Simmons)

Jockey & Trainer:  Bette Conklin

Don’t count her out, but this last minute entry is considered a longshot as the 15th qualifier this year.  With a jockey new to the stable, can she forget her past stumbles, corral her inner thoroughbred and gallop to the head of the field?

And a big thank you to the officials!
