Eligibility:  Entries are open to male amateur golfers who have USGA Handicap Indexes not exceeding 2.4 under the World Handicap System at time of entry.  A contestant must be an amateur and a member of a club which belongs to a local, state, or regional golf association.  App. 75% of the field will be members of MAGA member clubs. The field will be limited to 126 players. Acceptance of an entry will be based upon handicap index plus past performance in MAGA and other recognized amateur events.

Schoolboy entries (17 and under) are by invitation only - Juniors may submit a request for an invitation and must submit a paper entry.  They will not be able to enter on-line.  If the entering player is under the age of 18, the players' parent or guardian must submit the entry on behalf of the player, and the parent or guardian shall agree that he or she is executing the Participation and Liability Release Agreement on behalf of the player and is authorizing the player to participate in the Middle Atlantic Amateur on all the terms described. 

 

Entries are subject to rejection at any time (including during the Championship) by the Executive Committee of the MAGA.  The reason for rejection may include unbecoming conduct.  Amateur Status: All players must conform to the USGA Rules of Amateur Status.

 

Entries:  Form, Fee, and Opening and Closing Dates:  Players shall apply on MAGA forms, obtainable from Member Clubs or http://www.middleatlanticga.orgDo not combine entry fees for other events.  Entry fee of $300.00 shall be paid by every player.  Entries open on Saturday, July 1 at 9:00 AM.  Entries close on Thursday, September 21 at 6:00 PM. Entry fee, less a $25.00 service charge, will be refunded regardless of reason if MAGA is notified before the close of entries.  After the close of entries, an entry fee will be refunded, less $50.00, in the event of injury or illness if requested not later than Sunday, October 1. Entry fee will not be refunded after October 1.  Minors must submit a paper entry via mail with original signatures.  E-mailed entries are not accepted.

 

Player Notification:  Players will be notified by e-mail upon receipt of their application.  They will be notified again as soon as their application is accepted.  A waiting list will be established if the tournament is over subscribed.

 

Schedule:  Fifty-four (54) holes of stroke play with 18 holes scheduled for each day.  After 36 holes, the field will be cut to the low 60 scores and ties for the final round.

 

R&A World Amateur Golf Rankings:  The Middle Atlantic Amateur is a Counting Event in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) managed by the R & A and the USGA.

 

Awards, Ties, and Playoffs:  The Champion, runner-up, and third place finisher will receive Crystal Awards.  The top thirty finishers (based on a full field) will receive gift certificates.  The Champion’s name will be engraved on the permanent sterling silver Championship Trophy that was crafted in 1902.  The Low Schoolboy will receive an award.  In the event of a tie for the Championship, the winner shall be determined immediately after the certification of scores by a hole-by-hole playoff.  A tie for the Low Schoolboy prize will be broken by the low final round total, and then by the USGA recommended method of breaking ties.  All other ties will share the designated purse amount for those tied positions.

Footwear (including during practice rounds):  It is a condition of the competition that shoes with traditionally designed spikes (regardless of composition, i.e. Ceramic, plastic, etc.) or spikes, regardless of design, comprised either entirely or partially of metal (if such metal may come in contact with the course) are prohibited during the stipulated round.  Penalty for breach:  Disqualification.

 

Cell phone/PDA policy - The use of portable telecommunications equipment during championship play is discouraged.

 

Automotive Transportation:  during the Championship, a player may 1) bring their own caddie, 2) rent a golf cart for $31.80 (tax included) per round, or 3) walk and carry their bag.  You may use a push cart but you must bring your own.  Spectator carts are not allowed.

Groupings and Starting Times: Times for rounds 1 & 2 will be available on the event portal beginning on Wednesday, September 27.  Tournament Portal.

 

Practice Round Info – Practice rounds are available throughout the summer.  Each competitor may schedule one practice round. No guests allowed - competitors only.  Local players are encouraged to schedule practice early.  E-Mail Director of Golf Andrew Bonn, PGA at abonn@rbgcc.org to schedule practice.  Practice rounds are available on weekdays.  They are also available on weekends after 1:00 PM.  Practice on the Wednesday before the championship is reserved for out-of-town players.

 

Practice round fees are as follows:  There is a $31.80 (tax included) charge for the practice round which includes cart fee and range (whether you use the cart or not). 

 

Payments credit card, checks or member charge back are accepted… no cash is accepted anywhere on property.

 

Food & Beverage - Breakfast will not be provided.  The club's grill area adjacent to the 18th green will be available each day for lunch and beverages.

 

Notice of Withdrawal: If a player withdraws, he should promptly notify the MAGA at (443)463-8940 in order to ensure an alternate a fair opportunity to play. 

 

Waitlist

A limited number of players who do not make the starting field will be placed on a waiting list as alternates. Those waiting list players who do not make the final field will be issued full refunds.  Do not call to inquire about your status on the waitlist.
