MEMORANDUM TO U.S. WOMEN’S OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP CONTESTANTS

 

 

We are grateful to Arizona Country Club for hosting this USGA qualifying event. Please remember that we are their guests and our conduct should reflect our thanks. Club Policies and Amenities:

Arizona Country Club is a private club with a very active membership. Participants of the US Women’s Open Qualifier will need to limit time spent on the driving range, practice chipping and putting greens while at the facility for practice rounds. The club does not allow cell phone usage in indoor areas at the facility.

 

Field Size & Qualifying Spots

There are 78 contestants in the field at as of April 25 (12pm EST), 36 Professionals and 42 Amateurs. The Arizona Qualifier has been allocated 2 qualifying spots and two alternates. In case of a tie for the final qualifying spot or either of the two alternate positions, an immediate hole-by-hole playoff will be conducted for the contestants involved.

 

Pairings & Assigned Start Times

Pairings will be available at the AWGA (under Tournaments), at the golf course and emailed to you no later than Friday, May 11, 2018. Pairings and order of play have been prepared by the USGA and start times will be assigned by the AWGA. Changes to pairings or start times are not permissible for any reason. This is a 36 hole qualifier. There will be a double-tee start in the morning and in the afternoon. The morning tee times will begin at 7:00 a.m., with the final group starting approximately at 9:00 a.m. The afternoon tee times will begin at 12:30 p.m., with the final group starting approximately at 2:30 p.m.

 

Food & Beverage Service

PLEASE NOTE: Arizona Country Club is a cash only facility, all food and beverage outlets will only accept cash!!! The club will not be open for breakfast and there will be limited Food and Beverage outlets available for lunch or other meals, as the course is technically closed. The Outpost (halfway house) will be open with limited options. However, boxed lunches are available for purchase by players, spectators, and caddies at $25 per person. Lunches MUST be pre-ordered no later than TUESDAY MAY 8 at 1 p.m., by purchasing on the AWGA’s website. Please follow the step by step instructions below:

  1. Visit awga.org and click on “Register” or “Member Log In” (if you are an AWGA member or have already registered on our site).
  2. Once you have created an account or logged in then you can CLICK HERE to purchase your lunch.

If you are not a member with the AWGA, you will need to create a profile to purchase your lunch. Lunch will include a turkey wrap or southwest chicken wrap (vegetarian option available), chips, fresh fruit, and water. You will receive a voucher Monday morning at registration to redeem for your lunch when you make the turn.

 

AGAIN, PLEASE BE ADVISED, THERE WILL BE VERY LIMITED OPTIONS FOR PURCHASING FOOD OUTSIDE OF THE BOXED LUNCH MENTIONED ABOVE!! You MUST PRE-ORDER YOUR BOX LUNCH, no lunches will be available for purchase on the 14th. Suggestions for nearby breakfast places are listed below. Snacks and waters will be provided to players and caddies.

 

Registration

Registration will begin at 6 a.m. and will be on the east side of the Arizona Country Club golf shop. Registration is mandatory for players who have pre-purchased a boxed lunch and/or have a caddie. Caddies will receive a wrist band at registration that designates their status as a caddie, this wrist band must be displayed at all times. 

 

Use of Golf Carts

Use of automotive transportation by contestants is prohibited. Caddies may use motorized carts for a fee of $20 plus tax per caddie (credit card add 2.5% fee) per 18 holes, limit of two carts per group. Push carts are permitted and can be rented in the golf shop for $10, or participants may bring their own. Spectators and guests are not permitted to ride in carts. The number of carts may be limited; if you know that you want your caddie to have a cart, please reserve one by contacting the AWGA office at erin@awga.org not later than Monday May 9, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. Those who have reserved a cart will be accommodated first.

 

Practice Rounds

Practice rounds can be scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays after 2:00 p.m., can be booked up to 2 days in advance, and are intended for qualifying participants only. Caddies may accompany players for assistance. You may book your tee time by calling the golf shop at 480-889-1528. The practice rate is $100 (cash, check, or credit card) per player and is inclusive of cart and range balls. Please be aware that many of the participants are traveling from out of state or country and will need practice rounds closer to the date of qualifying. If you are local to the Greater Phoenix area, please consider schedule your practice round for earlier, and reserving the later times for those traveling from out of town.

 

USGA Policies in Effect

  1. Alternate Footwear Policy shall be in effect.
  2. The ball each contestant uses shall be named on the current List of Conforming Golf Balls issued by the USGA, and the “One-Ball Rule” shall be in effect.
  3. Use of portable telecommunications equipment is prohibited during all USGA Championships and Qualifying.
  1. The use of distance measuring devices is prohibited.

Course Set up

The course shall be played from a mixed set of tees. Score card for the practice round will be available at the golf shop and is attached. The Committee reserves the right to alter the yardage based on weather and course conditions the day of the qualifying. All Local Rules will be listed on the Notice to Contestants. The USGA Hard Card will be attached with the conditions of competition.

 

Practice Facilities

All practice facilities will open at 5:45 am.

Country club golf attire is required.

To Withdraw

If you find it necessary to withdraw for any reason, you MUST notify both the USGA and the AWGA prior to your assigned starting time. Contact the AWGA at 602-253-5655, and the USGA at 908-234-2300.
