Winter Open Series 2021/22 & Order of Merit Rules

 

White Tees. Individual Stableford.


Each Open score in the series of five counts towards a cumulative best three scores for the Order of Merit prize.


Fully Compliant CONGU. Maximum Handicap Index - 18. Full Allowance.

CDH Numbers Required.

General

 

1. The 2021/22 Sutton Coldfield Golf Club Winter Open Series will consist of five events between October 2021 and March 2022. There will also be an overall Order of Merit based on the best three Stableford points scores from the five events.

 

2. All tournaments will be played under The R&A Rules of Golf and additional local rules of Sutton Coldfield Golf Club.

 

3. The competition is open to both amateur and professional golfers who will compete within the same competition.

 

4. The competition format will be individual Stableford with full handicap allowance. All players will play from the White tees or Yellow Tees (Tees advised at Registration)

 

5. Handicap – Amateurs – Full handicap. Maximum handicap – 18. Players with a handicap above 18 may enter but will only receive 18 shots.

 

6. Handicap – Professionals who hold membership and compete on the European Tour, Challenge Tour, EuroPro Tour, Jamega Tour or 1836 Tour will play off a handicap of +2. Professionals who finished in the top 30 of their 2020 PGA Regional Order of Merit will also play off +2. All other professionals will play off scratch.

 

7. For all amateurs each event will be classed as a Qualifier and scores will be sent back to respective Home Clubs in accordance with CONGU handicap rules.

 

8. Preferred lies on all closely mown areas. Players will be able to lift, clean and place within six inches, but no closer to the hole.

Eligibility

 

1. All professionals.

 

2. Amateurs with an active handicap. Handicap certificates or CDH numbers MUST be produced at the registration process stage. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of any prizes won.

1. Visitors entry will be online booking via Golf Empire at www.golfempire.co.uk

2. Sutton Coldfield Members will book online via the Intelligent Golf Portal

 

Entry Fees

 

1. Sutton Coldfield Members – £30.00 per player. 2. Non-members – £40.00 per player.

 

3. All entry fees will be collected at the online booking-in stage. Any outstanding fees must be paid prior to play.

 

4. Maximum 84 players. When maximum numbers have been reached, further entries will be taken and placed on a reserve list.

 

5. Competitors may enter a maximum of three players per event.

 

Field Size

 

1. Each tournament will have a minimum field of 40 players and maximum 84. If the minimum number of bookings is not reached two days prior to the event, the tournament may be cancelled.

 

2. In the event of withdrawals, places will be allocated from the reserve list on a first come, first served basis.

 

Event Agenda

 

8:00am onwards – Registration, including tea/coffee & bacon rolls

9:00am-10:44 am – Tee off on the 1st hole or 10th hole.

4:00pm approximately – Prize presentation (as soon as possible after the final group are in)

 

In Event of a Tie

 

1. In the event of a tie, determination will be made on a card countback using the best scores on the back 9, 6, 3 and last hole then sudden death from the first hole. As it will be a two tee start the back 9 holes are 10-18, back 6 holes 13-18, back 3 holes 16-18 and the last hole is the 18th hole.

 

2. In the event of a tie for the Order of Merit, the player recording the single highest individual Stableford score in the 5 events will be the overall winner.

 

Pace of Play

 

Players are expected to be mindful of their position on the golf course in relation to the game in front and pace of play will be monitored by course marshals. Persistent offenders will be subject to penalty and may be refused entry to future events.

 

Withdrawals and Absence

 

1. Withdrawals must be made by contacting 0121 353 9633 or via email manager@suttoncoldfieldgc.com

 

2. Withdrawals made by telephone to the Tournament Committee will only be accepted between 9:00am-4:00pm Monday to Friday. Withdrawals made by messages on answer machines will not be accepted.

 

3. Exceptions to these rules may be made in cases of sickness, injury and other special circumstances, subject to the discretion of the Tournament Committee.

 

4. The Tournament Committee must be given at least 24 hours notice in the event of a withdrawal. Failure to do so will result in no refund and/or possible suspension from the next tournament.

 

Code of Conduct

 

All players and caddies/friends are expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner both on and off the course. Failure to do so will result in a ban or refusal of future entry to competitions.

 

Order of Merit

 

This year the order of merit prize will be based on the cumulative total of the best 3 stableford points scores from a possible 5. The entry fee for the order of merit is optional and priced at £10.00.

 

Prize Fund

 

  1. Prize Funds will be as follows:
  • 1st Place – £400.00
  • 2nd Place – £250.00
  • 3rd Place – £150.00
  • 4th Place – £50.00
  • Best Gross Score – £150.00

 

This may vary dependant on number of entrants.

 

2. As stipulated in the R&A Rules of Golf “An amateur golfer must not accept a prize (other than a symbolic prize) or prize voucher of retail value in excess of £500.00 or the equivalent, or such a lesser figure as maybe decided by the governing body.” As such the prize fund for first place will be capped at £400.00 for both professionals and amateurs.

 

4. Amateurs will be paid in the form of retail vouchers for the Sutton Coldfield Golf Shop ONLY. Vouchers will be valid for a maximum of 12 months. These vouchers are not transferable for cash.

 

5. Professionals will win cash. These will initially be handed out as vouchers. When the prize presentation is complete these can be redeemed for cash with the Tournament Office. Professional golfer identification must be produced; failure to do so will result in no cash exchange.

 

Cancelled or Abandoned Tournament

 

In the event of the tournament being cancelled prior to commencement, players will receive a full refund. In the event of a tournament being suspended/abandoned, if 50% of the field have completed, the result will stand with prize money reduced by 50% and non-completing players will receive a credit.
