2022 Valley Ridge SNIPS Local Rules Sheet

The goal of course is to follow all 2022 published rules of golf. If anyone has general questions about a situation they encounter on the course, you can always play two balls and ask the Pro Shop or Kenny after the round for clarification. That said, in the spirit of FUN, below is a list of proposed “Local Rules” for our SNIPS group. Pace of play was another major consideration when making this list. These local rules ONLY apply for Saturday SNIPS. If anyone has other thoughts or suggestions, please contact Kenny Gregor – Club Captain.

Local Rules for SNIPS

  • Gimmies – There will be NO gimmies allowed. Please make ALL putts.
  • The maximum score any player can make on a hole is double par on a hole. If you reach double par on a hole, you can pick up and move on.
    • Ie. 6 on a Par 3, 8 on a Par 4 and 10 on a Par 5
  • As our SNIPS season starts in May, winter Rules will be in effect to start, and we will revaluate in June in hopes of changing to Summer rules where you will play the ball as it lies throughout the golf course.
    • If you are in an area of winterkill or dead grass, you can move your ball to the nearest point of relief, no closer to the hole, with no penalty.
    • If there are unmarked areas that should be ground under, please use your discretion, and move your ball with no penalty.
  • Leaf Rule will come into effect in September. If the group determines the ball should have been found, but may have been lost under leaves, please take a free drop as close as you can to the spot where the ball should have been.
  • Transmission Tower on Hole 1 – In the interest of safety, do not try to hit your ball through the tower. Please take a free drop if the tower is in your line of play. You also receive relief for swing and stance.
  • The drop zone by the green on hole 6 is in play. If you are going for the green and come up short into the water, please feel free to use the drop zone on the other side. This has been put into play in the interest of pace of play.
    • Please note, this drop zone is not in effect for some events including Club Championships.
  • The drop zone on hole 8 across the first water penalty area is in play. If you do not clear the water with your tee shot, please feel free to use the drop zone. This has been put into play in the interest of pace of play.
    • Please note, this drop zone is not in effect for some events including Club Championships.
  • The drop zone on hole 17 is in play for all lost balls.
    • Please note, this drop zone is not in effect for some events including Club Championships.

Reminder of Other Rules People Should Know

  • You are allowed to fix spike marks on greens.
  • If you need to drop your ball, please drop from knee height.
  • There is no longer a one-stroke penalty if you double hit a ball. Count one and play your next shot from where the ball lies.
  • If your ball strikes a transmission wire on 1, 5, 10, or any other hole, you MUST replay the shot regardless of the outcome.
  • Out of Bounds / Lost Balls on the golf course:
    • If a player hits a ball out of bounds or loses a ball, the general rules still require the player to return to the spot of the previous stroke and take a one-stroke penalty - a standard stroke-and-distance scenario. For example, if a player sends a tee ball past the white stakes and out of bounds, they must play another ball from the tee, which becomes the third shot after the penalty. It's the same scenario for a lost ball.
    • We will also allow for a local rule that provides time-saving relief in such a scenario. Instead of the player returning to the spot of the previous shot in the event of a lost ball or a ball out of bounds, the player can take a drop in the nearest spot of the fairway (within two club-lengths of the edge of the fairway), no nearer the hole than where the ball crossed the OB line, with a two-stroke penalty.
    • Keep in mind, it's a two-stroke penalty under the local rule. If a player sends a tee shot out of bounds and proceeds under this local rule, they will play their fourth shot after dropping near the edge of the fairway. This is equitable to a player taking a stroke-and-distance penalty, then finding the fairway with the third shot from the tee. The next shot from the fairway would be the fourth.
      • OB (marked with White Stakes) and spots not marked with Red Stakes where you can lose balls include:
        • Driving Range Left of Hole 1
        • Property Fences in back yards (Hole 1, 2, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16)
        • Maintenance fence right of Hole 10
        • Road left of Hole 10
        • Right side of Hole 12
        • Trees Left of 18
