Message from your President

First KWGA Golf Playday was Tuesday January 10

We held our first General Meeting of the year, celebrated January birthday girls with cake and both the 9 & 18 Hole Leagues played their Welcome Back Scrambles. We started in fog, then it turned warm, while everyone seemed to have a very fun time.

Some highlights of information handed out at Kick-Off Coffee, General Meeting and found in the Yearbook.

The 2023 Yearbook is planned to be published by end of February. Aside from the obvious updates from 2022 to 2023 of Dates/Board/Committee/Winners/Members, information in the 2022 Yearbook largely remains accurate for 2023 though it will contain some updates. In the meantime, here are just a couple of changes to note:

2023 change: Playday Shotgun start times will be 9:00am except on days of General Meeting which will be 15 minutes after end of the 8:30 meeting. General Meeting dates are Jan 10, May 9, Sept 12, Oct 31.

2023 change: When withdrawing, an “X” should not be placed as a score in Golf Genius, it should be left blank.

2023 change: 18 Hole League’s who to contact after the Signup deadline has passed.

2023 change: 9 Hole League there will be a scoring max of 12 on any hole.

Details of these changes are explained in more detail along with the highlights of 2023 procedures below.

SIGNING UP TO PLAY

Tim sends out an email usually 2 weeks in advance. Select “Playing” if you want to play.  You will receive a confirmation email that will allow you to select “Not Playing” if you decide to cancel before Sunday noon prior to the Playday.

Another way to sign up is directly through the Golf Genius app or Golfgenius.com. Sign in using the GGID for your group, KWGA18 or KWGA9. Go to Member Portal, then KWGA18 or KWGA9 Info and then Round Signup. Scroll to select your name and select Next. It allows you to sign up, shows that you are signed up or to cancel your sign up.

When Sign Ups are closed at Sunday Noon, you will not be able to sign up or cancel using your confirmation email or Golf Genius. Instead you MUST:

9 Hole League: TEXT Kathleen Labbe 713-410-3450 to be included/excluded from play.

18 Hole League (new in 2023): TEXT BOTH Bev Henderson 217-520-8599 & Tim Lovell 210-219-8004…OR EMAIL BOTH Bev Henderson bjhendi@hotmail.com  & Tim Lovell at either Timothy.Lovell@invitedclubs.com or KWGA18@gmail.com

Weather:  Assume we will be playing unless the course is closed.  If you do not want to play given the perceived conditions, be sure to follow the cancellation procedure.

DAY OF PLAY

When you arrive, you may drop your bag at the Bag Drop and the staff will take your bag to your cart staged at the Island practice green.  If players are running late, they should check in first and bring clubs and personal items after checking in to avoid 2 stroke penalty. The penalty was waived for Tuesday’s Welcome Back Scramble, but it will be enforced from here on out.

Please be at your starting hole on time. Do not start early. Play at a good Pace of Play.

SCORECARDS

Record Gross score and record Putts. At the end of the round, subtract your handicap listed on the card from your gross score to record your net score for the day. Total your putts. Competitor and Marker must both sign the scorecard.

Please circle Chip-ins if you signed up to participate in the pots.

18 Hole League has no need to circle Birdies or calculate for the Playday game.

9 Hole League should follow their procedures to circle Birdies, circle anything special that happened on a hole and to tabulate their score for the Playday game.  Also (new in 2023), a player can and must pick up after they have reached 12 on a hole and must record a score of 12 with 4 putts.

ALL scorecards must be turned in, including for those Withdrawing from the round.

RECONCILING GOLF GENIUS

Once you have agreed that your printed scorecard is correct, the person keeping scores in Golf Genius for the group should read each score out loud, hole by hole (not just totals) as players check their score on the scorecard to ensure accuracy. Make sure these both agree.

If there is a discrepancy between Golf Genius and the scorecard, playday scorecards remain the official record of scores.

Immediately after play, return your signed scorecard to the Ladies Locker Room.  For 18 Hole League there will be a box on one of the tables to place your card (Marked 18 Hole Scorecards).

IF YOU ARE LATE

Please be on time! There is a 2-stroke penalty to a player that arrives after check-in, even one minute is considered late.  Apply the two strokes to the hole you start on and indicate on your scorecard that the penalty was applied.

WITHDRAWING

When a player withdraws, scoring should STOP on both the paper scorecard and in Golf Genius.  LEAVE BOTH BLANK!  Golf Genius scorers should immediately stop entering scores for a W/D player.  Do not enter “X” in Golf Genius, EVER.  Leave it blank (this is new in 2023).  Golf Genius will provide a pop-up message that notifies the scorer that not all scores have been entered.  Select “Next Hole” or “Continue” for each hole thereafter. If a player withdraws but chooses to stay out on the course and play, no scores are recorded and player should pick up at their max. Scorecards for Withdrawn players must still be turned in and marked W/D. If the player wants to record the round in GHIN, they must do so on their own as KWGA will not upload W/D scores to GHIN.

For 18 Hole League, if a player picks up at any time during the round (except Special Rule on Island #18), they are considered W/D and must follow the Withdrawal procedure.

For 9 Hole League (new in 2023), a player can and must pick up after they have reached 12 and must record a score of 12 with 4 putts. This does not disqualify them, and so they do not have to withdraw from the round.
