Meeting Minutes

February 9, 2021

Absent:            Tom Lyda

  1. Minutes of the January 12, 2021 meeting were approved and accepted as submitted.
  2. Treasurer’s Report: Frank Zampello – Frank reported that the bank balance at the end of January was $4,209. In addition, OFWW has $970 of credits on our account with KCC for a total $5,179.  Balance includes $2,690 for 20121 dues which were billed to members in January.
  3. Communication / Membership: Patrick Tourais
    1. OFWW membership currently stands at 195. Since the last meeting 9 members resigned, and 3 new members joined. Tim Lovell is assisting new members without a GHIN number get set up with a place holder number until the permanent GHIN number is assigned.
  4. Tournaments: Bill Wells
    1. 63 players participated in the February 9 Bash.
    2. The next Bash is scheduled for March 9. Format is a shamble. The course is not yet assigned.
    3. The Board discussed the possible need to move up cutoff for Bash registration to Sunday. The club’s current policy of not allowing shotgun starts for Bashes requires more time for Tim to complete pairings, assign tee times and get those communicated to participants.
    4. Steve will follow up with the Dick Smith to see if a shotgun start for the Bash will be allowed.
  5. Interclub: Dave Bradley and Joe Blankenship
    1. Joe and David attended the league’s captain’s meeting last week. Major topics included pace of play and whether league match scores should be posted as “competitive” rounds for handicap purposes. The decision was no.
    2. There was no discussion of the league mandating minimum course lengths for league matches.
    3. First matches will be played on February 25 with both Kingwood teams playing at home on the Marsh course.
  6. Website: Brent Johnston
    1. Brent is in the process of “cleaning up” the website and requested input from the Board regarding items that need to be addressed.
  7. Vice President: Edwin Goldman
    1. There are currently only 50 members in the hole-in-one pot. We need to encourage more participation.
    2. Playday course schedule has been confirmed.
  8. Statistics: Tom Lyda – No report.
  9. President’s Report: Steve Hendricksen
    1. MGA is introducing “Medalist” form of play. Monthly members could choose to participate and play the same designated course at any time during the month. Cost would be $5 per match, flighted by handicap. Winners would receive points toward year end awards.
    2. Golf Committee
      1. Dress code has been published and is being enforced for men and women.
    3. Bylaw revision: The Board discussed Section 3 regarding player’s tee choices and the current “Rule of 95” included in the bylaws. It was pointed out that removal or modification of the rule would require a vote by the membership.
    4. Joe Blankenship objected to inclusion the new Section 11 being included in the bylaws. The complete bylaw revision draft will be the subject of further discussions at a later date.
    5. The Board discussed and agreed that minutes of Board meetings should be posted to the website. It also agreed that Board meetings were open and could be attended by any member.
    6. The Board also discussed whether “Local or OFWW” rule changes should require membership approval.
    7. The subject of increases to Bash and Playday entry fees will be discussed at the Annual Meeting.
    8. The Board agreed that a “Rule of 90” could be adopted for Bashes.
    9. Steve proposed that the Board consider adopting a OFWW rule allowing players to drop on the other side of Par 3 water hazards after hitting one ball in the hazard. The player would incur a 2-stroke penalty similar to the USGA optional rules for balls hit out of bounds or lost. The Board was not in favor of the proposal.
