Scramble & alternate is a combined team handicap. The intent of the formula is 33% of team combines for 9 holes and 50% on alternate shot. It is a complex arrival to this and we use the same formula for all teams for fairness, as follows:
The World Handicap System requires full precision to be maintained in intermediary calculations
Rounding is performed only once and as the last step.
White tee, the slope is 125, the rating is 70.2 and the par is 72.
The Course Handicap is being calculated for All 18 holes.
Team Bill (6.6) & Carl (13.4) Individual index
Bill: The Course Handicap is calculated as index * slope / 113 = 6.6 * 125 / 113 = 7.30
The CR - P adjustment of 70.2 - 72 = -1.8 is applied. The resulting Course Handicap is 5.50
Carl: The Course Handicap is calculated as index * slope / 113 = 13.4 * 125 / 113 = 14.82
The CR - P adjustment of 70.2 - 72 = -1.8 is applied. The resulting Course Handicap is 13.02

TEAM SCRAMBLE HANDICAP
Bill/Carl combined Playing Handicap is calculated as 28% of individual Course Handicaps.
This formula is used for all teams
28% * (5.50 + 13.02) = 5.18
The course handicap is applied proportionally to the number of holes played in the 9-hole competition:
5.18 * (9 / 18) = 2.59
The TEAM Playing Handicap is rounded to the nearest whole number: 3.
TEAM ALTERNATE SHOT HANDICAP
Bill/Carl combined Playing Handicap is calculated as 42.5% of individual Course Handicaps.
This formula is used for all teams
42.5% * (5.50 + 13.02) = 7.87
The course handicap is applied proportionally to the number of holes played in the 9-hole competition:
7.87 * (9 / 18) = 3.93.
The TEAM Playing Handicap is rounded to the nearest whole number: 4.
