Rules Questions and Inquiries: Referees can be reached at 403 923 3451 during competition. Cell phone use for this purpose is permitted.
Terms of the Competition:
- Play is governed by the 2019 Golf Canada Rules of Golf, the 2021 Alberta Golf Terms of the Competition and Local Rules. Rules on the host club scorecard do not apply.
- Unless otherwise noted, penalty for breach of a Local Rule or Term of Competition is the General Penalty, 2 strokes.
- FORMAT: 36 holes of stroke play.
- MAXIMUM SCORE: Maximum Score (Quadruple bogey – 4 over par) - Scoring in Maximum Score:
(1) Player’s Score on Hole. A player’s score for a hole is based on the player’s number of strokes (including strokes made and penalty strokes), except that the player will get only the maximum score even if the actual score exceeds the maximum. A player who does not hole out under the Rules for any reason gets the maximum score for the hole.
To help pace of play, players are encouraged to stop playing a hole when their score has reached the maximum.
The hole is completed when the player holes out, chooses not to do so or when his or her score has reached the maximum.
(2) Score Entered for Each Hole. To meet the requirements in Rule 3.3b for entering hole scores on the scorecard:
If Hole Is Completed by Holing Out:
When Score Is Lower Than Maximum. The scorecard must show the actual score.
When Score Is Same as or Higher Than Maximum. The scorecard must show either no score or any score at or above the maximum.
If Hole Is Completed Without Holing Out. If the player does not hole out under the Rules, the scorecard must show either no score or any score at or above the maximum.
- PLAYOFF: A tie for the championship will be decided by a hole by hole playoff starting on #18, then #18, then #10, etc. Repeated as necessary until winner is decided.
- TEES: U17 boys – Blue Teeing Areas, U17 girls/U15 boys – White Teeing Areas, U15 girls/U13 boys and girls – Red Teeing Areas.
- SCORING: Alberta Golf Tent by #18 green. (Tent is a Temporary Immovable Obstruction, free relief under Local Rule F-23).
- EVACUATION: In the event of dangerous conditions a horn will be sounded, and players should seek shelter immediately. Players will not gather at the clubhouse due to Covid-19. Players will either stay on course if safe to do so or return to their cars/designated area outlined by the referees and host club.
Supplementary Local Rules:
- PRACTICE AREAS: Practice area, driving range and practice putting green in front of clubhouse. A player MUST NOT practice on the competition course the day of or between rounds. Penalty for first breach: General Penalty. Penalty for second breach: DQ.
- OUT OF BOUNDS: Defined by white stakes, white lines, boundary fences and the inside edges of walls along property lines of the golf course. Practice facilities are OB.
- TEMPORARY IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS: All starting and scoring tents are TOIs. Relief is allowed if the player’s ball touches or lies in or on a TIO; the TIO interferes with the players area of intended stance or area of intended swing; the TOI is on a players line of sight (straight line) to the hole; or the ball is within one club-length, measured on an equidistant arc from the hole, of a spot where the TIO would be on a players direct line of sight to the hole. Model Local Rule F-23 is in effect.
- RIDE BACKS: There will be “Ride Backs” supplied for players in the event that a player needs to return to the location where they played their previous stroke.
- REPLACEMENT OF BROKEN OR SIGNIFICANTLY DAMAGED CLUB: Model Local Rule G-9 is in effect.
- BALL PLAYED FROM OUTSIDE RELEIF ARE WHEN TAKING BACK-ON-THE-LINE-RELEIF: Model Local Rule E-12 is in effect.
Supplementary Rules Regarding COVID - 19
- PENALTIES: All players must follow the protocols outlined in the Covid-19 Championship Risk Acceptance Waiver. Any players who fail to follow these protocols are subject to a verbal warning, 2-stroke penalty, or disqualification. Players will be given one of the three disciplinary actions depending on the severity of the offense. Determination of whether a player has committed an infraction is at the discretion of the referees.
