The last 63 years have seen some remarkable changes in the world of golf, from chunks of steel on a cheap metal shaft to perfectly balanced high end metals on a graphite shaft designed by artificial intelligence, from a golf ball made from rubber bands to ones with 5 individual layers, from drivers made from a piece of persimmon wood with a plastic face insert to drivers of today with a whopping size of 460 cubic centimeters that are constructed with aerodynamics in mind. The invention of hybrids which have saved many a senior golfer much embarrassment and helped him keep his ball in the air, the introduction of range finders which help provide too much information to a usually already confused golfer thus allowing him to hit a perfect shot, still, sadly 20 yards short of his mark, and golf shoes that feel so comfortable that we senior golfers forget we are on a golf course and not home in our living rooms watching the pros show us how it's really done. Still with all of this we find great enjoyment pushing a little peg in the ground, balancing a white ball atop it and giving it a mighty rip, hoping to see it heading straight down the fairway and putting a song in our hearts. Simply put it's why we play the game.
While it would seem the right thing to do to mention by name all of those who have done so much to make this organization the success it is today, there would always be one or two that would be unfortunately be left out so to avoid having this happen we would just like to say that you all know who you are that have kept NHSGA going in the past, in the present and hopefully in the future. It takes a lot of thankless and time consuming effort to make this all happen so don’t hesitate to offer a pat on the back, a doff of the cap or a fist bump to those you see volunteering their time to make this association what it is today and will hopefully be well into the future.
