By the time the 40th anniversary rolled around (1997) NHSGA was playing 8 tournaments a season, well over 300 golfers were members, and if you were to play all tournaments it would set you back $189. The mix between private and public golf courses sat at about 50%. This was also the year that golfers were reminded that a lot of the courses we play now don’t allow golf shoes with metal spikes.
By 2007 -- the 50th anniversary year -- NHSGA was still holding 8 tournaments but that was about to change. 2008 saw 10 events followed by 11 in 2009, up to 13 in 2013, 14 in 2014, 15 in 2017 and topping off at 16 golf tournaments in both 2018 and 2019. Membership was capped off at 380 active players with a waiting list approaching 100. Of the 16 venues we played in 2019 there were 4 public courses and 12 private courses.
