Welcome To The WSGA Senior and Super Senior Men's Amateur Championship!
The 31st Washington State Senior Men’s and the 10th Super Senior Men’s Amateur Championships are to be held concurrently at Sunland Golf and Country Club in Sequim, Wash. on September 27-29. Both championships are 54 holes of stroke play and are conducted by the Washington State Golf Association (WSGA).
Last year’s Senior and Super Senior Men’s Championships were held at Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla, Wash. Brad Karns of Vancouver, Wash. won the Senior Men’s title, while Gudmund Lindbjerg of Port Moody, B.C. won the Super Senior title. Both are in the field again this year, looking to defend their titles. Lindbjerg also won the Super Senior title in 2014, and last week he won the PNGA Men’s Super Senior Team title with partner John Gallacher of Burnaby, B.C., who is also in the field this week. Last year, Lindbjerg and Gallacher finished one-two in the Super Senior Men’s Amateur.
Also in the field this year in the Senior Men’s Amateur are Tom Brandes of Bellevue, Wash., who has won this title four times (2011-14), and Larry Daniels of Seattle, who won in 2009.
Also playing is Bob Burton of Everett, Wash., who won this title in 2015, becoming the first player in state history to win the Washington State Junior Amateur (1971), the Washington State Amateur (1975), and the Washington State Senior Amateur title.
Also in the Super Senior field are the 2003 Senior Men’s champion and the 2013 Super Senior Men’s champion, Jeff Remington of Edmonds, Wash.; Bruce Richards of Seattle, who won the Super Senior in 2009 and 2010 and also the 2000 Senior, and who was inducted into the Pacific Northwest Golf Hall of Fame in 2013; and Rick Weihe of Bellingham, Wash., who won the Washington State Amateur in 1970.
Founded in 1922, the WSGA is a 501c4 non-profit, amateur golf association governed by men and women volunteers. Serving over 68,000 individual members at more than 550 member golf clubs and 270 golf courses throughout the state of Washington and Northern Idaho, the WSGA works to continually expand the game of golf to people of all backgrounds.
The WSGA also serves as a statewide representative of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and works closely with a number of allied associations within the golf industry for the betterment of the game.
