Del Paso Amateur Recap
Monday, January 27, 2020

Sacramento, CA – The GOLF AM Tour’s Sacramento section visited Del Paso Country Club for the first time in Tour history on Monday. Del Paso has hosted five USGA Championships, the most recent being the 2015 US Senior Open, so it was very exciting for them to open their doors to the AM Tour for an event. The whole staff treated us great, the course was in phenomenal shape and we lucked out big time with the weather; so all in all, I’d say it was a fantastic day! We even had some low scoring out there to top it all off!! Here were your top finishers from a memorable day at the storied Del Paso Country Club:

The Championship flight was an absolute battle on Monday, as eight players posted 75 or better, but the lowest of the them all was Tyrell Rohrer at (-1) 70. Rohrer, out of Long Beach, carded just one bogey for  the entire day to take medalist honors and win the flight by one stroke over Christopher Goin (71). It was the first win of the season for Rohrer and he is now in fourth place in the very competitive Los Angeles Tour Championship flight standings after earning a big 175 points on Monday.

The lone playoff of the day came in the Palmer flight on Monday, as Joe Roberson and Marc Picciano both came in at (+4) 75 after 18 holes. Joe Roberson, out of East Palo Alto, made an incredible eagle on the first playoff hole to secure his second win of the 2019-2020 season. After earning 175 points for the clutch victory on Monday, Roberson is now in third place in the Bay Area Senior Palmer flight standings heading into the month of February.

Issac Harris, out of Fairfield, was your champion in the Hogan flight on Monday. Harris posted an outstanding round (+3) 74 to win the flight by two shots over Kiel Voight, who also had a great round of (+5) 76. After knocking on the door a bunch already, Harris finally got his first win of the season and earned 175 points to creep a little closer to the Hogan flight points leader Sean Harrigan who finished 3rd on Monday.

Gary Addison, also out of Fairfield, was your Del Paso Amateur champion in the Senior Hogan flight on Monday. Addison posted (+13) 84 to win the flight by two shots over Michael Carroll (86) to lock up his first win of the 2019-2020 season. The 115 points earned on Monday moved Addison up to third place in the Senior Hogan flight standings heading into February.

The Sarazen flight saw Sacramento’s own Gary Kodani post a solid round of (+12) 83 to win the flight by a single shot over Larnold Jones (84).  Kodani came into the round slightly injured but was able to tough it out (on a course he had been really looking forward to playing) and record his first victory since 2017. Kodani now holds a very comfortable lead in the Senior Sarazen flight points standings thanks to some solid top finishes already this season and Monday’s big W.

Sam Rowe, out of Vacaville, was your champion once again in Jones flight on Monday. Rowe carded (+12) 83 to win the flight by three shots over Matt Myers and Michael Wright (86s) for his third victory just four months into the season. Rowe’s W on Monday now has him in the lead in the Jones flight points standings and qualified for the National Championship at Sunriver Resort in September.

A tightly contested Snead flight was won by Kathie Holtzapple on Monday as she posted (+23) 94 to just edge out Charles OBriant (95) and Jerry Matacia (96). Holtzapple, out of Lodi, has also now won three times on Tour this season. Her win at TPC Scottsdale already had her qualified for Senior Nationals, but why not check off the three win portion of the qualification ladder as well? The 95 points racked up on Monday has Holtzapple just 17.5 points behind the Bay Area Senior Snead flight points lead.
