All contestants must register in person with the PNGA at Tacoma Country & Golf Club, prior to playing in the championship. The following registration hours have been scheduled:

COURSE YARDAGE

Course yardage is subject to change. Hole-by-hole yardages for stroke play are available on the championship portal and at the end of this document. Select yardages will be changed slightly throughout match play.

 

STARTING TIMES

Stroke play starting times for Monday, July 8 and Tuesday, July 9 will be posted online and emailed to players on Monday, June 24.

 

SCHEDULE

STROKE PLAY 36-hole stroke play qualifying in order to determine the 64 players who will advance to match play.

 

All players will play one qualifying round at Tacoma C&GC and one qualifying round at Chambers Bay.

 

In the event of a tie for the final qualifying places into match play, a hole-by-hole playoff will be used to determine the qualifiers. A hole-by-hole playoff will also be used to settle a tie for qualifying medalist honors. Any necessary playoff will be on Tuesday, July 9 at Tacoma C&GC, one hour after the completion of the second round of stroke play qualifying.

MATCH PLAY – The General Numerical Draw will be used to seed the 64 players for single elimination match play. All matches will be 18-holes with a 36-hole championship final match.

PRACTICE ROUND @ TACOMA COUNTRY & GOLF CLUB

Contestants may play one complimentary practice round prior to the championship. Hosted practice rounds will be available Monday – Thursday during the week prior for local contestants and after 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 7 for out of town contestants. Players can schedule practice rounds by calling the Tacoma C&GC golf shop at (253) 588-0404. Practice rounds may not be scheduled prior to June 18 after the field is finalized. All practice round times are at the discretion of the host club staff.

 

PRACTICE ROUND @ CHAMBERS BAY

Contestants may play one reduced rate practice round prior to the championship. See below for practice round rates and availability. Players may call to schedule practice round times beginning on June 18. Players must identify themselves as a PNGA Men’s Amateur Participant.

 

July 1 – July 7

  • After 1:00 p.m. - 18 holes - $79
  • After 4:30 p.m. – 9 holes - $39

 

Players must call the golf shop directly at (253) 552-4873 to book these times within the established practice round blocks. Please note that Saturday, July 6 will only have the 9 hole rate available as the rest of the tee sheet has filled up for the day.

 

PRACTICE

Model Local Rule I-1.1. Rule 5.2a is modified in this way for stroke play qualifying: A player must not practice on the competition course before or between rounds.

 

GOLF CARTS

Carts are prohibited. Players must not ride on any form of transportation during a stipulated round unless authorized by the Committee.

 

SPECTATOR CARTS

To provide an equal championship platform for all competitors, the use of automotive carts by spectators is not permitted at any time by the PNGA.

 

CHAMPIONSHIP ACCOMMODATIONS FOR DISABLED SPECTATORS

The PNGA is committed to providing an enjoyable spectator experience for people with disabilities at PNGA Championships. Requests from spectators seeking transportation onto the golf course due to a permanent disability, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), must be submitted to a PNGA staff member on site. While spectator carts are not allowed, the PNGA will make every effort to accommodate these requests by assigning a PNGA volunteer driver based on availability. The driver will transport the spectator to viewing locations throughout the golf course, not shot-by-shot or hole-by-hole.

 

Spectators with transportation needs should contact the PNGA Championship Department at (206) 526-1238 ext. 3 prior to the championship so that arrangements can be made to have a driver on site.

 

Requests due to temporary injuries or impairments will not be granted.

 

Only spectators who have complied with the above procedures and met the requirements will be permitted to ride.  Every possible effort will be made to ensure that spectators with permanent disabilities are able to view the competition.

 

TACOMA COUNTRY & GOLF CLUB DETAILS

 

FOOD SERVICE (NO-HOST)

The snack bar will be open from 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily. The snack bar only accepts cash as a form of payment.

 

CONTESTANTS’ LUNCH

The PNGA will host lunch for players after their stroke play qualifying round at Tacoma C&GC on either Monday or Tuesday.  

 

LOCKER ROOM

A locker room is not available.

 

GOLF SHOP HOURS OF OPERATION

The golf shop will be open from 6:00 a.m. – dusk. All major credit cards and cash are accepted in the golf shop. 

 

COURSE YARDAGE BOOKS

Tacoma C&GC yardage books are available for sale in the golf shop for $19.99.

 

WARM UP RANGE BALLS

The PNGA will host range balls for contestants during championship week. Range balls will be staged on the driving range from 6:30 a.m. – dusk each day. The driving range will close at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 7.

 

CADDIES

Host club caddies are not readily available for the championship. Contestants may provide their own caddie.

 

CHAMBERS BAY DETAILS

 

FOOD SERVICE (NO-HOST)

The Turn Stand will be open from 6:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily. The Grill opens daily at 8:00 a.m.

 

CONTESTANTS’ LUNCH

Lunch is not hosted for players at Chambers Bay.

 

LOCKER ROOM

A locker room is not available.

PRIZES

A) Stroke Play – A PNGA Championship Kusak crystal medallion will be awarded to the qualifying medalist. The medalist’s name will also be engraved on the perpetual trophy. In the event of a tie for medalist honors, the outcome will be determined by a hole-by-hole playoff.

 

B) Match Play – Kusak crystal prizes will be awarded to the champion, runner-up, semifinalists and quarterfinalists. The champion will have his name engraved on the PNGA Men’s Amateur Championship Macan Cup Perpetual Trophy. 

 

C) Hole-In-One and Eagle Awards – Awards will be given to any contestant who scores a hole-in-one during either the stroke or match play portion of the championship. Awards for eagles will be presented to any contestant who scores an eagle during the 36-hole stroke play qualifying.

 

AWARDS CEREMONY

The awards presentation ceremony will take place immediately following the final match (approximately 3:30 – 4:00 p.m.). PNGA hosted hors d’oeuvres will be available.

 

EXEMPTIONS

The 2019 PNGA Men’s Amateur Champion will receive exemptions into the 2020-2024 PNGA Men’s Amateur Championships, the 2019 Pacific Coast Amateur Championship and the 2020 Sahalee Players Championship.

 

PERFORMANCE POINTS

Performance Points may be awarded for the PNGA Men’s Amateur Championship through the player’s respective state or provincial association. Players may verify with their association by phone or their website.

 

GHIN SCORE POSTING

The PNGA will post and transmit the adjusted stroke play scores for all players on the USGA GHIN System for handicapping purposes. Players should post their match play scores.

 

DRESS CODE

The PNGA expects all contestants and their caddies to wear suitable attire on the host club property throughout the duration of the championship, including practice rounds. Suitable attire does not include cutoffs, short shorts, tank tops, jeans, or denim of any kind or color, tee shirts, sweat pants or unkempt clothing of any kind. Contestants must wear neat and clean slacks, Bermuda, or walking shorts. Shorts must be of an appropriate length and must meet the host club dress code. Golf shirts with collars or golf mocks are mandatory. Hats and visors must not be worn in the clubhouse. Shoes and socks must be worn at all times. Sandals of any kind, even sandals with soft spikes, are not allowed on the golf course at any time, including practice areas. If additional measures are required by the host club, they will be communicated to all contestants prior to the championship and must be adhered to. Gallery must adhere to the host club dress code policy. Failure to adhere to the dress code may result in disqualification and removal from the course.

 

FOOTWEAR

Shoes with traditionally-designed spikes (regardless of composition, i.e., ceramic, plastic, etc.) or spikes, regardless of design, comprised either entirely or partially of metal (if such metal may come in contact with the course) are prohibited during the stipulated round. Penalty for breach of this condition: Disqualification.

 

CONDUCT CODE

The PNGA expects all contestants, caddies, gallery, and guests to exhibit proper conduct and behavior on the golf course and anywhere on club property during a PNGA championship. Unbecoming conduct or behavior may be grounds for immediate disqualification, at any time, from any PNGA event. The following are some examples of unbecoming conduct or behavior:

 

  • Repeated use of loud, abusive, and/or profane language
  • Throwing and/or breaking equipment (club, ball, etc.) in anger or frustration
  • Damaging host club, PNGA, and/or fellow contestant property
  • Public criticism or verbal abuse of host club, officials, volunteers or staff, and/or PNGA volunteers, staff or fellow contestants
  • Potential endangerment of others
  • Intentionally violating stated club policy
  • Violation of PNGA Dress Code and/or Footwear Policy
  • Other conduct deemed unbecoming
     

The Committee in charge of the competition shall be the sole judge of determining Conduct Code violations.

 

REFUND & WITHDRAWAL POLICY

All refunds prior to the entry deadline are subject to a $10 administrative fee. Refunds are not available after the closing deadline except for documented and approved medical reasons. Refunds approved after the closing deadline, and up until round one pairings are released, are subject to a $25 administrative fee.

 

NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED AFTER ROUND ONE PAIRINGS HAVE BEEN RELEASED.

During play of the championship, a “Withdrawal Form,” available from a PNGA staff member, must be completed by any competitor withdrawing. Entrants who unofficially withdraw, by not filling out a form or without sufficient reason, may not be granted entry into any future PNGA championship for a minimum of two years.
