All Players are seeded on the single elimination competition ladder based on handicap at date of preparation. There are three (3) flights.
Example:
Two competitors in “B” Flight decide to play their match one afternoon. Player 1 has a handicap of 15 and Player 2 a handicap of 18. BOTH competitors will play off scratch (0) since strokes are not given in Flight Match Play competitions.
Flights:
A Flight (Blue Tees) - 0 to 13
B Flight - 14 to 18
C Flight - 19+
Tee Boxes
A Flight Men will play from the Blue Tees,
B and C Flight Men will play from the White tees, and Ladies will play from the Red Tees.
Handicap changes
The Flight Matchplay ladders have been constructed using current handicaps at the time of registration. It is expected that handicaps will change throughout the season and in most cases these will not affect the standings within the flights. Where a players’ handicap has been adjusted to the point that they no longer fall within their original allotted flight, the following ruling has been passed by the Tournament Committee. “Where a players’ handicap does not fall within the original allotted flight the following rule will apply:
- The Player whose handicap has moved down will stay playing in the original flight but will give strokes to their opponents calculated on the differential between their current handicap and the lowest handicap in the flight.
Example: Player A who was originally in Flight B (13 -18) and at the time of playing the match has a handicap of 10, will have to give his opponent 3 strokes (13-10=3). - The Player whose handicap has moved up will continue to play in the original allotted flight but will not be granted strokes by their opponent.”
Scheduling
- All matches of the competition must be played by the Completion Dates published on the Event Portal.
- It is the responsibility of both players on the ladder to contact the other player and arrange the match.
- Concerted effort by both players must be made to arrange the match. Constant refusal of dates by one player will result in a forfeiture of the match.
- If a date cannot be settled, please bring this to the attention of the committee immediately for resolution.
- Requests to extend “play by dates” will not be entertained by The Committee.
- The Committee’s decision will be considered FINAL on all Scheduling issues.
Ineligibility
Match Play competitions are not permitted to be played in Stroke Play events. USGA Rule 33-1 states “that certain special Rules governing stroke play are so substantially different from those governing match play that combining the two forms of play is not practicable and is not permitted. The results of matches played and the scores returned in these circumstances must not be accepted”. Members electing to play their match play competition in a stroke play event will automatically become ineligible to compete for prizes in the stroke play event.
Rules
USGA Rule 2 Match Play will define all rules in the Competition. Ties will be settled by as many holes as required for the match to be won.
Reporting Results
Results shall be reported immediately after the conclusion of the Match - Report Match Play Results
