MGA Inclement Weather Policy

The policy listed below will be used to determine results and process during all MGA tournaments that are affected by inclement weather.

The Coto de Caza MGA will make every effort to play all tournaments to its conclusion. Tournament play will commence or continue in wet or cold weather unless it is deemed that conditions are unsafe for players. Tournament play may also be halted, cancelled or postponed if weather conditions are deemed unplayable by the Director of Golf and Head Superintendent with input from the specific tournament’s Tournament Committee and/or Tournament Director.

For single day tournaments, in the event the weather or conditions are deemed unplayable prior to the start of play, an alternate date will be communicated to all participants and the tournament will be played on the alternate date. Tournaments postponed to an alternate date due to inclement weather will be eligible for a refund of tournament fees only if the participant is unable to play on the alternate date, and so notifies the MGA prior to the deadline that will be established for that alternate date. Tournaments that are completely cancelled due to inclement weather, without an alternate date, will be eligible for a refund or credit of tournament fees.

Every effort will be made by the tournament committee to publish any alternate inclement weather dates prior to the start of the tournament.

For multi day tournaments, should it be determined the weather or conditions are deemed unplayable prior to the start of play that day, every effort will be made by the Tournament Committee or Tournament Director to supplement the other days with additional play or formats to accommodate the shortened play of the multi day tournament. Should the determination of non-playable conditions or weather be made prior to the final day of a multi-day tournament, every effort will be made to record a result and score for the entire event based on the actual golf played. Multi day tournaments may be shortened to accommodate any golf that was actually played during the event. Ideally, 9 hole increments will be used for these shortened rounds, but the Tournament Committee reserves the right to make any needed adjustments at the time of any inclement weather rulings.

Match play tournament results for rounds halted without resumption due to inclement weather will be decided by the Tournament Committee at the time. Should any of the Tournament Committee be a party to any of the matches in question, the committee member in question will be recused from the decision process. Alternate tournament committee members that are non-playing members or pro shop staff will be determined prior to the start of the tournament in the event substitute committee members become necessary due to the lack of a quorum.

Multi day tournaments that are shortened due to inclement weather or conditions will not be eligible for any refunds of tournament fees.

The decisions of the Tournament Committee and MGA Board on this process will be deemed final.
