ELIGIBILITY
Any professional or amateur golfers. Amateur golfers must have an active Handicap Index® not exceeding 2.4 (at the time of registration).
AMATEUR STATUS
Competitors entering as an amateur golfer are not eligible to to accept prize money and/or decide to accept any prize money at the end of the competition. An amateur entering and playing as a professional loses their amateur status, this does not include an amateur golfer who enters the competition as a professional but has yet to play in the competition.
ENTRIES: FEE, CLOSING DATE, REFUNDS
All players – including those who are exempt, must submit and complete payment of an online registration through the Mass Golf event registrations system by 5:00pm EDT on the published entry deadline. CLICK HERE to view all applicable withdrawal and refund polices.
Entry Fee: $200 - Amateurs | $350 - Professionals
Entries Close: Wednesday, April 9, 2025
SCHEDULE
Competition will be in two stages:
- Qualifying – 18 holes stroke play for all except exempt players
- Championship – (+/-) 144 players, including exempt players. 54 holes stroke play.
- Tuesday, June 10 – Round 1, 18 holes
- Wednesday, June 11 – Round 2, 18 holes
50 lowest scores & ties (or anyone within 7 strokes of the leader) continue play on June 12
- Thursday, June 12 – Round 3, 18 holes
In the event of a tie for the championship a three-hole aggregate playoff will be held. In the event there is still a tie after three holes, a hole-by-hole playoff will determine the winner. There will be no playoff for Low Amateur.
TROPHIES & PRIZES
The winner will receive the Clarence G. Cochrane Memorial Trophy. The Low Amateur will receive the Commonwealth Cup. A guaranteed $75,000 professional purse will be paid out using the professional purse breakdown. Amateurs making the cut will receive merchandise certificates that are only redeemable at the host site.
CADDIES/GOLF CARTS
Qualifying – The use of golf carts is permitted at the player’s expense and based on any host club policies. Players may also use caddies and push/pull carts (including electric) at the host club’s discretion.
Championship Proper - The use of golf carts is NOT permitted. Players may use caddies and push/pull carts (including electric) at the host club’s discretion.
FOOD & BEVERAGE
Food & beverage details and availability for the championship proper and qualifying rounds will be outlined on the player information sheet(s).
LOCAL RULES; TERMS OF THE COMPETITION; SCHEDULES
The Mass Golf Board of Directors/on-site Rules Committee reserves the right to alter any of the Local Rules, Terms of the Competition, provisions and/or schedules. The decision of the Board of Directors/on-site Rules Committee in any matter will be final.

STARTING TIMES & PLAYER INFORMATION
Qualifying information, including tee times, pairings and player information will be emailed to all competitors and posted to the Open Championship website shortly after entries close. Championship information will be shared shortly after the final scheduled qualifying round.

Upon receipt of a completed online registration by the published entry deadline, the players in the following categories are exempt from qualifying); 2025 Open Championship Exemptions.

Based on availability, players may request a qualifying location transfer by contacting championships@massgolf.org.
QUALIFYING PLACES & TIES
The number of qualifying places per site will be determined after entries close and will be published on the specific player information sheet for each qualifying site. The number of qualifying spots is subject to change based on any withdrawals prior to the competition and/or alterations in the schedule.
PRACTICE ROUNDS
Practice round opportunities/access may be available at the discretions of the host club(s). Details regarding practice rounds will be shared with competitors during the registration process and/or at the close of entries. Competitors are asked to refrain from contacting host club(s) regarding practice rounds until they receive official details from Mass Golf.
