THE LANDMAND EXPERIENCE

benefiting Youth on Course in Nebraska

Charity: The core purpose of Youth on Course is to provide youth with access to life-changing opportunities through golf. Youth on Course is based on the following formula. The Nebraska Golf Foundation (NGF) negotiates a preferred Youth on Course junior golf rate with participating facilities in Nebraska. Youth on Course members can then play golf at these facilities (along with other Youth on Course courses nationwide) for $5 or less. The NGF is responsible for subsidizing the difference between the negotiated rate and the member payment, which is in excess of $100,000 each year. We're proud to create access and make the game affordable for over 5,000 Youth on Course members in our state.

Thursday Evening Featured Guests:

Will Andersen, Landmand Owner

Landmand, Danish for Farmer, is owned by the Andersen farming family.  Will Andersen, the 4th generation of his farming family & a talented amateur golfer, had the vision to develop the course on land that was no longer used to raise crops.  Several years ago, after an enthusiastic visit from the talented duo of Rob Collins & Tad King, Will hired King-Collins to design the inland links style course on a rugged site featuring close to 200′ in elevation changes from the high to low points. Andersen also owns Old Dane Golf Links in nearby Dakota City.

Trevor Dormer, Golf Course Architect

Canadian golf architect Trevor Dormer is to embark on his first course design project, a total rebuild of the nine hole Old Dane course in Dakota City, Nebraska, with the assistance of owner Will Andersen. Dormer, who has worked largely with Coore and Crenshaw for the last decade, including spending more than two years on the construction of the new Cabot St Lucia course, came to know the Andersen family when working on the build of Landmand for architects King-Collins. “I had Trevor for two weeks, and I have been a fan ever since,” says Will Andersen. “Even in that short time it was obvious what a talent he was, both as shaper and as a human being. He was the real visionary behind Landmand’s fourth hole – he created a great green that really made the hole. When I thought about rebuilding Old Dane, I had a chat with Rob Collins, and he confirmed my thought that Trevor would be the right candidate to do the job.” Dormer’s plan for Old Dane calls for the 93 acre property to be completely rerouted, giving a twelve hole course with six, nine and twelve hole loops. It will be walking only.

The Course: Landmand (https://www.landmandgc.com/) was recognized by Golf Digest as the "Top New Public Course" in 2022 and in 2023 was named #14 on Golfweek's List of U.S. Public Access Courses and #26 on their list of U.S. Modern Golf Courses (built in or after 1960). In 2024 they sold out their allotment of 11,000 tee times in under three hours. Situated in northeast Nebraska, Landmand sits on a vast, elevated section of loess formations with eroded furrows and valleys. It winds across the bluffs and between valleys, and from the tops of the ridges, horizon views of 20 miles or more are possible. Architects, Rob Collins and Tad King, known for creating the cult nine-hole Sweetens Cove outside Chattanooga, were able to make the golf look like it fit against the endless backdrops constructing fairways 80 to 100 yards wide and greens that are, cumulatively and in some cases individually, the largest in the United States. Landmand is King-Collins first 18-hole design.
