TERMS OF THE COMPETITION



ELIGIBILITY

This championship is open to junior boys and girls who meet the following requirements:

  • Membership: Reside within the SDGA territory (Onondaga, Cortland, Cayuga, Madison, Oswego, Oneida, Seneca, Tompkins, and Wayne County east of Route 14)

  • Age: Be 18 or younger as of July 23, 2024.

  • USGA Handicap Index: Have an active GHIN Handicap with the following limits placed for each division - juniors are eligible for a free USGA GHIN Handicap Index by joining the NYSGA eClub of Central New York.

    • Boys 18U: 15.0 max

    • Boys 14U: 22.0 max

    • Girls 18U: 22.0 max

 

ENTRIES, DEADLINE, AND WITHDRAWALS

  • Entries: An entry must be submitted online with payment prior to the deadline. Late entries will not be accepted, regardless of reason.

  • Entry Fee: All entries for the 2024 Junior Classic are FREE 

  • Deadline: Entries must be received prior to the deadline (12PM EST on Thursday, July 18, 2024). Late entries will not be accepted, regardless of reason.

  • Withdrawals: If a player needs to withdraw, please contact mdirkes@nysga.org as soon as possible. 

 

FORMAT, DIVISIONS & TEES

The format the Boys' and Girls' 18 Division is 54 holes at stroke play, played in 18-hole rounds over three days with a cut after Round 1 to half the field. The format of the Boys 14U Division is 36 holes played over the first two days . Players compete in the following divisions from the listed tees:

  • Boys' 18U (ages 15-18)

    • Black Tees (6,300 yards)

  • Boys' 14U (ages 14 & under)

    • Blue Tees (5,900 yards)

  • Girls' 18U (ages 18 & under)

    • White Tees (5,250 yards)

CUT

The fields of the Boys' 18U Divisions will be cut to roughly half the field size after Round 2. There is no cut in the Boys 14U Division.

FIELD SIZE AND SELECTION PROCSS
The field size for each division is listed below. If a division has more entries than stated, the field will be selected by the player's with the lowest Handicap Index as of the entry close date. If a division does not reach this limit, other division sizes may be increased.

  • Boys 18U: 36 players

  • Boys 14U: 12 players

  • Girls 18U: 18 players

 

RANKINGS

The 2024 SDGA Junior Classic is a Junior Golf Scoreboard & WAGR ranked event.

 

  

 

EXEMPTIONS
The top-3 finishers of the Boys' 18U Division will be exempt for the 2025 NYS Boys' 18U Junior Amateur Championship.

RULES

All play will be governed by the USGA Rules of Golf. Players will be provided a "Notice to Players" rules sheet containing local rules and conditions. The SDGA will have volunteer Rules Officials on the course to provide rulings and answer questions.

 

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

  • Tuesday, July 23 // Round 1 // 11:30am - 1:00pm
  • Wednesday, July 24 // Round 2 // 8:30am - 10:00am
  • Thursday, July 25 // Round 3 // 9:30am - 10:15am

 

CADDIES

The use of caddies is permitted, but they must be under 21 years old and may not be related to the player.

 

FOOD & BEVERAGE

There is no lunch provided, players may purchase food and beverages using cash/credit in the Tuscarora restaurant.

 

GOLF CARTS

The use of a golf cart is not permitted. Push carts are approved.

 

RANGE

The limited distance range (170 yards max) will be open for players.  

 

TEE GIFTS
All players will receive exclusive tee gifts for competing in the SDGA Junior Classic.

 

AWARDS

Trophies will be awarded to the winners. Pro shop credit will awarded out to the top finishers in each division.
