Format: The CGA Super-Senior Match Play Championship will be played using the PGA TOUR style match play Pod Play system at gross scoring. This means that any player who registers for the championship will be guaranteed at least three (3) matches in the championship. After each player is ranked (see below), all players will be evenly distributed into their pod with three (3) other players. This will yield 8 pods of four (4) players. Each player will play all three other players in their pod at least once (see schedule below). The winner of each pod will advance to the Round of 8 and single elimination knockout play will commence from there until a champion is crowned. If there is a tie for the pod winner or knockout stage, a sudden death playoff will determine the winner.
Scoring: There will be no playoffs in pod play. Scoring during pod play will be as follows:
Player Seeding: All 32 players will be ranked 1 – 32. The defending champion will be ranked #1. Exempt players will be ranked next based on their 2023 CGA Super-Senior points standings and then handicap index, if necessary. The rest of the field of 32 will be made from players that are first come, first served and will be ranked next based on their 2023 CGA Super-Senior Player of the Year points standings and then handicap index, if necessary.
Pod Structure: The pods will follow the PGA TOUR style of randomized drawing. Once players have been seeded 1 - 32, players will be drawn at random so that each pod will consist of a player ranked 1 - 8 (A Player), 9 - 16 (B Player), 17 - 24 (C Player) and 25 - 32 (D Player). Please CLICK HERE to view the applicable pod rankings once player seeding is established.
Match Schedule:
Groupings: Players will play in groups of four (4). There will be two matches taking place at each tee time. All players will be grouped by their pod.
Carts: Carts are included for all players in their entry fee for all rounds of the championship. During Pod Play, players will share a cart with another player. During knockout stages, all players will have their own cart. All players are of course welcome to walk or bring a caddie or push cart.
Driving Range: The practice range will be available for all players each morning starting at 6:00am.
