The Magnolia Challenge (formerly The Dixie Cup)

Welcome to the Magnolia Challenge and on behalf of the Cape Fear/Wilmington, NC Chapter, welcome to Coastal Carolina! Being your 2024 host for this great multi-chapter event is an honor!  We truly hope you enjoy your weekend here in Coastal Carolina, so kick back, but also get your competitive juices flowing for your team! 

 

Schedule of Events

Thursday/Friday

  • Practice Rounds. Schedule with the pro shop at 910-477-8500

 

Friday - Opening Registration –Members Club

  • 6:00-8:00 PM
  • Heavy Hors d’oeuvres with one complimentary house drink (Drink Ticket)
  • Additional drinks with a credit card at the bar (No Cash is accepted on the St. James properties, except for tips) 
  • Rules meeting 7:00 PM, Susan Lamar will be our Rules Official for the tourney.

 

Saturday – The Clubs at St. James, Members Course

  • 8:00-9:30 AM Continental Breakfast
  • 10:00 AM Shotgun start, four-ball competition
  • Lunch Buffet and Awards Ceremony following golf
  • Seating will be by starting hole
  • Drinks will be available with a credit card at the bar
  • ~4:00 PM Magnolia Challenge Winners and 50/50 winners announced 

 

Sunday - The Clubs at St. James, Founders Course

  • 7:00-8:00 AM Grab n’ Go Breakfast
  • 8:30 AM Shotgun start, fun golf

 

50/50 Drawing

We will support two Charities this year: one local, Hope Harbour Home Inc., and the USGA Girls Golf Programs. Please bring cash for the 50/50 Charity Raffle Tickets.

 

Golf Format and Scoring

Scoring: One point is awarded to the team that wins each match; in the event of a tie, both teams score half a point. After all matches are complete, the team with the most points wins. Any ties are broken in favor of the defending champion team.

 

Saturday will be played as a four-ball. A four-ball consists of two players from each team competing against each other in match play. All four golfers play their balls throughout the round.  The player with the lowest net score wins the hole for their team. A winner is declared during the round when their lead is such that the opponent can no longer close the gap mathematically. In other words, a winner is declared when the opponent can no longer tie or win the match even if she were to win all of the remaining holes. (90% of your Course Handicap)

 

Handicaps - Players must have an established USGA Handicap Index.  The Handicap Revision Date that will be used is October 15, 2024.

 

Sunday will be played as a fun round of the foursomes choice.   

 

Policies

Waitlist - we may open a waitlist at any point throughout the registration process.  Payments are due upon receipt of your invoice.  There is no guarantee of team placement to waitlisted players but we will do our best to try and keep chapters together, if possible. 

 

Refund/Cancellation Policy - All cancellations must be requested by email and acknowledged via return email to be valid.  

Full refunds less a 4% processing fee can be requested before July 31st.  

July 31st through August 31st a 50% refund for cancellations less a 4% processing fee, unless we can substitute a waitlisted player for you. 

There are no refunds after August 31st. If there are still waitlisted players available, we will arrange for you to contact them to replace you and you can collect payment from them directly. If no waitlisted players are available, you may substitute a player from your chapter and collect payment from her directly.

All four Pro Shops on the Clubs at St. James properties will offer a 20% discount during our tournament (soft goods). 

 

Note: The Clubs accept major credit/debit cards, not cash. Except for Tips!!!

 

COVID - Due to the challenges COVID has presented, modifications may be made to each event for the health and safety of our participants.
