History of the LaBonte Four-Ball: The “Eleanor I. LaBonte” tournament originated in 1950. In February of 1972 it officially became the “The Eleanor I. LaBonte” tournament. Miss LaBonte served as Executive Secretary for over 25 years and was Handicap Chairperson for 33 years. In 2020 the event officially became the “LaBonte Four-Ball Tournament”. Last year’s 2023 gross winners were Christine Gagner & Rita Berard.
Format:
- 18 holes of Four-Ball stroke play (commonly known as two-person Best-Ball)
- Each player plays her own ball and the side’s score for a hole is the lower gross score of the two partners
- Gross and Net Divisions
Handicaps: All golfers will play to 85% of their Course Handicap™ as of September 18, 2024. Players will be limited to a 36 Playing Handicap™.
Tees: Women will be playing from Mass Golf Red Tees from ~4,967 yards
Starting Times: Refer to pairings and starting hole assignments.
Scorecards: Paper scorecards will be provided to all participants for the player’s own notes. All paper scorecards are considered UNOFFICIAL. The official scorecard will be the mobile Golf Genius app scoring. Prior to the tournament, players should download the Golf Genius app. Click HERE for mobile scoring instructions. You will be provided a GGID number on your scorecards and that is the number you type into the app to see your foursome and enter scores.
Practice Areas: The driving range, chipping area and putting green will be accessible before play beginning at 7:30 a.m.
Pace of Play: Pace for this round is 4 hours and 30 minutes. Please ensure that you are keeping within a hole of the group in front of you.
Scoring: At the end of the round all scores must be verified by the team before your team’s designated app scorekeeper and unofficial written scorekeeper reports to the scoring tent. Mass Golf staff will verify with the designated scorekeepers that their scores are accurate and will take a verbal yes as a confirmation/signature.
Awards: Trophy engraved with names of gross winners. All ties will be decided by a matching of cards in accordance with USGA recommended method. Prize Certificates (gross & net places) will be given out and must be redeemed at Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club.
Rules of Golf: The USGA® Rules of Golf, Local Rules and Terms of Competitions for Mass Golf Tournaments govern all play.
Mass Golf Policies & Procedures: Please refer to Policies & Procedures and Pace of Play Policy.
Distance-Measuring Devices: Permitted as specified in Mass Golf Policies & Procedures.
Bathrooms: There are bathrooms located inside the clubhouse, in between 7th & 10th tee boxes, and one after the 14th green headed towards the 15th tee box.
Water: There is a water station behind the clubhouse, accessible at the beginning of your round & at the turn.
Food and Beverage: The beverage cart will be available to purchase snacks and alcoholic beverages, ALL forms of payments are accepted. A lunch buffet will be served in the Pavilion after play concludes. The clubhouse bar will be open CASH/CREDIT CARD after the round.
Additional Information: There are no practice rounds available.
DECISIONS BY THE COMMITTEE IN ATTENDANCE ARE FINAL.
