History of the Dolly Sullivan Team Best Ball: This annual team event was introduced in 1982 in honor of Dolly Sullivan, who was the niece of American golf legend Francis Ouimet. Sullivan served as golf coach at nearby Milton Academy for 32 years.
Format:
- 18 holes of Best Ball of four stroke play
- Teams play their own ball on each hole
- At the end of each hole the four-person team writes down the best person’s gross score on that hole
- Gross and Net Divisions
Teams play one 18-hole round during one of the two days
Handicaps: All golfers will play to 75% of their Course Handicap™ as of July 2, 2024. Players will be limited to a 36 Playing Handicap™.
Tees: Mass Golf Red Tees from ~4,967 yards.
Tee Times: Morning shotguns will go off at 8:00 a.m. The afternoon shotgun will go off at 1:45 p.m.
Scorecards: Paper scorecards will be provided to all participants for the player’s own notes. All paper scorecards are considered UNOFFICIAL. The official scorecard will be the mobile Golf Genius app scoring. Prior to the tournament, players should download the Golf Genius app. Click HERE for mobile scoring instructions. You will be provided a GGID number on your scorecards and that is the number you type into the app to see your foursome and enter scores.
Practice Areas: The driving range and putting green will be accessible before play beginning at 7:00 a.m.
Pace of Play: Pace for this round is 4 hours and 30 minutes. Please ensure that you are keeping within a hole of the group in front of you.
Scoring: At the end of the round all scores must be verified by the team before your team’s designated app scorekeeper and unofficial written scorekeeper reports to the scoring tent. Mass Golf staff will verify with the designated scorekeepers that their scores are accurate and will take a verbal yes as a confirmation/signature.
Awards: The Dolly Sullivan Team Best Ball has two permanent trophies that will be engraved with the names of the low gross and low net winners from their respective divisions. All ties will be decided by a matching of cards in accordance with USGA recommended method. Prize Certificates (gross & net places) will be given out and must be redeemed at Sterling Country Club.
Rules of Golf: The USGA® Rules of Golf, Local Rules and Terms of Competitions for Mass Golf Tournaments govern all play.
Mass Golf Policies & Procedures: Please refer to Policies & Procedures and Pace of Play Policy.
Distance-Measuring Devices: Permitted as specified in Mass Golf Policies & Procedures.
Bathrooms: Women's locker room and two additional bathrooms on the main floor of the clubhouse. Additional bathrooms on hole 5 and between holes 11 & 16.
Water and Snacks: Multiple water stations at various locations on the course. There will be two beverage cart one on each nine that will be offering snacks and alcoholic/non alcoholic beverages. Cash ONLY accepted.
Food and Beverage: Coffee will be available for both morning shotguns. A buffet style lunch will be served in the clubhouse ballroom beginning at noon for the afternoon shotgun. The morning shotgun will have lunch following their round. Alcoholic/ beverages are available for purchase in the ballroom starting at noon. Cash and Credit Cards are accepted.
Additional Information: Practice rounds are available on Monday, July 8th, Tuesday July 9th, Tuesday, July 16th, Thursday, July 18th, and Saturday, July 20th. The weekday rate is $100 including a cart no time restrictions. The weekend rate is $125 after 3:00 p.m. only. There is no food service in the clubhouse available during the week. The beverage cart will be available. A tee time can be made by calling the Pro Shop directly at (978)-422-3335 and provide your name.
