History of the Mother Son Modified Tournament: The Mother Son Tournament originated at Wellesley Country Club. Last year's winners were Senior Division: Joanne and John Catlin and Junior Division: Sue and James Curtin.
Format:
- 18 holes of Modified Scotch format
- Each team member will hit their tee shot after which the better of the two balls will be played into the hole in alternate shot format.
- Gross and Net Divisions
Handicaps: 60% of lower handicap plus 40% of higher handicap for team handicap as of June 26th, 2024.
Tees: Women will play from Mass Golf Red Tees from ~5,447 yards. Men will play from Mass Golf Blue Tees from ~6,344 yards.
Shot Gun Start: 10:00 A.M. Shotgun
Scorecards: Paper scorecards will be provided to all participants for the player’s own notes. All paper scorecards are considered UNOFFICIAL. The official scorecard will be the mobile Golf Genius app scoring. Prior to the tournament, players should download the Golf Genius app. Click HERE for mobile scoring instructions. You will be provided a GGID number on your scorecards and that is the number you type into the app to see your foursome and enter scores.
Practice Areas: The practice green and driving range are located to the right side of the pro shop. The driving range will be accessible before play starting at 8:30 A.M. Please return carts immediately following the shotgun.
Pace of Play: Pace for this round is 4 hours and 30 minutes. Please ensure that you are keeping within a hole of the group in front of you.
Scoring: At the end of the round all scores must be verified by the team before your team’s designated app scorekeeper and unofficial written scorekeeper reports to the scoring tent. Mass Golf staff will verify with the designated scorekeepers that their scores are accurate and will take a verbal yes as a confirmation/signature.
Playoff: In the event of a tie for the overall Champion only, there will be a hole-by-hole sudden death playoff on holes designated by the Committee to determine the Champion team. All other ties will be decided by matching cards in accordance with USGA® recommended method.
Awards: The Mother Son Senior Division and Mother Son Junior Division each have a permanent trophy that will be engraved with the names of the low gross winners from their respective divisions, as well as an overall trophy that will be engraved with the names of the low gross winners regardless of division. Prize Certificates (gross & net places) will be given out and must be redeemed at The Ranch Golf Club.
Rules of Golf: The USGA® Rules of Golf, Local Rules and Terms of Competitions for Mass Golf Tournaments govern all play.
Mass Golf Policies & Procedures: Please refer to Policies & Procedures and Pace of Play Policy.
Distance-Measuring Devices: Permitted as specified in Mass Golf Policies & Procedures.
Bathrooms: Men's and Women's locker rooms are available in the clubhouse. Bathrooms are available in the pub at the turn and in between the 7 & 14 greens at the halfway house.
Water and Snacks: Water coolers will be available on the course at holes 5, 8, 12, and 16.
Food and Beverage: Boxed lunches will be available for grab and go starting at 11 a.m. in the Pub. Alcoholic beverages are available for purchase inside the Pub as well as the stationary beverage cart out by the 7 & 14 green. Cash and Credit Cards are accepted. There is NO breakfast or coffee service available. Per the permits with the town of Southwick no alcoholic beverages can be served prior to 11:00 a.m.
Additional Information: Although practice rounds are not available, you can feel free to make a tee time on your own by calling the pro shop at (413) 569-9333 , as this is a public course.
