History of the Curtis Bowl Scotch Tournament: 

The first Curtis Bowl Scotch Tournament was played at Essex Country Club in 1956 and won by the team of Prunaret – Nicolls. This year’s defending champions are the team of Lisa Heaps & Kathy Brown.

 

Format:

  • One partner must play first from the teeing area of all odd numbered holes, while the other partner must play first on all even numbered holes. After the side’s first stroke from the teeing area, the partners must alternate strokes for the rest of the hole.
  • 18 holes of Scotch format
  • Gross and Net competition

 

Handicaps: 50% of combined team handicaps as of May 29, 2024.  Players will be limited to a 36 Playing Handicap.

 

Tees: Mass Golf Red Tees from ~5,003 yards.

 

Starting Times: Refer to pairings and starting hole assignments.

 

8:30 AM Shotgun Time                                                 

8:20 AM – All golfers to be ready at their carts.                                 

 

Scorecards: Paper scorecards will be provided to all participants for the player’s own notes. All paper scorecards are considered UNOFFICIAL. The official scorecard will be the mobile Golf Genius app scoring. Prior to the tournament, players should download the Golf Genius app. Click HERE for mobile scoring instructions. You will be provided a GGID number on your scorecards and that is the number you type into the app to see your foursome and enter scores.

 

Practice Areas: The driving range is located on the right side of the main entrance.  The putting green is located outside of the pro shop. Both will be accessible before play starting at 7:00 AM. Please return carts immediately following the shotgun.

 

Pace of Play:  Pace for this round is 4 hours and 30 minutes. Please ensure that you are keeping within a hole of the group in front of you.

 

Scoring: At the end of the round all scores must be verified by the team before your team’s designated app scorekeeper and unofficial written scorekeeper reports to the scoring tent. Mass Golf staff will verify with the designated scorekeepers that their scores are accurate and will take a verbal yes as a confirmation/signature.

 

AwardsThe Curtis Bowl Scotch has a permanent trophy that will be engraved with the names of the low gross winners.  All ties will be decided by a matching of cards in accordance with USGA recommended method. Prize Certificates (gross & net places) will be given out and must be redeemed at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club.

 

Rules of Golf: The USGA® Rules of GolfLocal Rules and Terms of Competitions for Mass Golf Tournaments govern all play.

 

Mass Golf Policies & Procedures: Please refer to Policies & Procedures and Pace of Play Policy.

 

Distance-Measuring Devices: Permitted as specified in Mass Golf Policies & Procedures.

 

Bathrooms: Bathrooms are located in the Clubhouse, Locker Room, 6th green, 9th green by the cart barn and 12th hole.

 

Water and Snacks: Water is located on the golf course. The halfway house will be open to purchase snacks and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. You may also purchase items in the pro shop. Cash and credit cards are accepted.

 

Food and Beverage: There will be coffee available before the round. Lunch will be served immediately after the round in the main dining room of the clubhouse.  Bar service will be available. Cash and credit card accepted.

 

Additional Information: Practice rounds are available Monday through Thursday anytime. There is a mandatory $25.00 cart fee.  Please call the pro shop to book at (508)- 869-9900 ext. 131 and provide your name.
