Eldorado Country Club, originally designed by Lawrence Hughes, opened in 1957 on what was a 792-acre fruit-growing ranch in Indian Wells. Eldorado played host to the 1959 Ryder Cup, where the American Team captained by Sam Snead won against the British Team, 8.5 to 3.5. Six American Presidents have visited Eldorado, and three became honorary members of the club. In 2003, Tom Fazio demolished the course in order to rebuild it completely; he changed the configuration of the holes at Eldorado, widened the tee areas, improved the greens, and added extensive water features and landscaping. In 2017 Eldorado Country Club will be celebrating its 60th Anniversary.
