The Bear Creek Men's Golf Club (BCMGC) typically plays each and every Saturday. We have a shotgun start with tee slots starting on holes 1, 18, 17, and so forth depending on the number of players in the event. Invites are sent out a week beforehand and if you wish to play you must respond by Thursday @8:00 a.m. for that specific Saturday.
Tee times can vary based on the calendar. In the summer, we tee off earlier than in the winter. Players should check-in with the volunteers in the morning no later than 45 minutes prior to the tee-off time. Please visit the cashier in the club house and pay your green fee after checking in.
Event Cost
For 2024, the member buy-in for Saturday morning events is $25 and it covers both Flights and Skins games, which are broken down as follows:
Flights:
- Gross Flights - individual stroke play based on actual score
- Net Flights - individual stroke play based on course handicap adjusted score
Skins:
- Gross Skins - single lowest score on a hole based on actual score
- Net Skins - single lowest score on a hole based on course handicap adjusted score
All members that play in any Net games MUST have valid handicap.
Note that the games fee is in addition to the course green fee, and must be paid in cash BEFORE play begins.
Out of each $25 received, $1 goes to fund skill hole contests throughout the year and year-end gifts. The remaining $24, goes toward the payout for the 4 games respectively on that Saturday in cash. Of the $24 remaining, $7 goes to fund the Gross Flights game, $7 goes to fund the Net Flights game, $5 goes to fund the Gross Skins game, and $5 goes to fund the Net Skins game.
Number of Flights
Depending on the number of member players each week, the number of Flights can vary. Below is a breakdown of how that is determined:
# of Players |
# of Gross & Net Flights |
# of Payouts/Flight |
# of |
---|---|---|---|
19 or less |
1 | 2 |
4 |
20-29 | 1 | 3 | 6 |
30-39 | 1 | 4 | 8 |
40-59 | 2 | 3 | 12 |
60-79 | 3 | 3 | 18 |
80-99 | 4 | 3 | 24 |
Flights are divided based on players' course handicap which is calculated based on players' GHIN handicap index and the course/tee rating and slope (for questions on how course handicap is determined, please see About | How Handicaps Calculated or do an internet browser search on "USGA handicapping").
Flights are only used for the Gross and Net Play games.
Payout
Gross and Net Flights Games
Payout and the number of places paid out is based on the number of member players in the Flight (see table below). For example, if there were 30 players and no ties, then there would only be one Gross Flight and one Net Flight, each totaling $210, and we would pay out four Gross Flight places and four Net Flight places with the following breakdown - 1st place: $105 (50%), 2nd place: $50 (25%), 3rd place: $30 (14%), and 4th place: $25 (11%).
Players | Flights | Places | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 4th |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
19 or less | 1 | 2 | 65 | 35 | ||
20-29 | 1 | 3 | 55 | 30 | 15 | |
30-39 | 1 | 4 | 50 | 25 | 14 | 11 |
Member players are not paid for both Gross and Net placings in a given Flight. If you are in the money in both Gross and Net games, you will get paid the larger amount of money in either the Gross or Net placings, and if the amount of money is the same, then the player will get paid out of the Gross game (this is called Gross Bias). In the case where there is a tie in score between 3 or more players across both the Gross and Net games for the same placing, then it may be necessary to combine the Gross and Net money and divide that money by the number of players involved to be equitable amongst all players.
Skins Games
Payout for Gross Skins is based on the total number of member & guest players, and the total number of Gross Skins won. For example, if there were 30 players and 1 Gross Skin won, then the Gross Skins value would be $150.
Payout for Net Skins is based on the total number of member players only, and the total number of Net Skins won. For example, if there were 30 players and 3 Net Skins won, then the Net Skins value would be $50 each.
Skill Hole Games
Payout for the weekly Closet-To-Pin Par 3 challenge holes is $25 and is funded from the weekly BCMGC member buy-in.
