Honeck and Frost take control of Trans-Miss Four-Ball Championship
Creighton Honeck and Clint Frost back up their first round with a second round, nine-under-par, 63. Steven Hudson and Brad Kropp lead the Senior Division after carding a seven-under second round for a nine-under two day total. Dave Sheff and Rich Tolly took the lead in the Super Senior Division thanks in part to Sheff’s eagle on the par four second after the second round of the Trans-Miss Four-Ball Championship at Mayacama Golf Club.
Creighton Honeck of Bee Cave, TX and Clint Frost of Robinson, TX took control of the Trans-Miss Four-Ball Championship after backing up their first round 64 with a nine-under-par, 63 in Round 2. Honeck and Frost turned at bogey free and five-under-par. The Texans made their lone bogey on the par four, twelfth but book ended that bogey with birdie on the eleventh and a string of four in a row starting on the 13th. Trading bogey and birdie on the 17th and 18th hole, they finished with a tie for the tournament low, nine-under and seventeen-under-par for the Championship.
Second in the Mid-Am Division are Travis Peterson of Santa Rosa, CA and Domingo Jojola of Burlingame, CA. The pair opened their second round with a slow start, completing nine holes at one-over-par. Starting on the second hole though, they caught fire. They made eagle on the par five, second and made birdie on the third and fourth hole. They made another birdie on the seventh and capped off their round with another eagle on the ninth. Their six-under-par effort leaves them four shots back of the leaders.
First Round leaders David Richards and Robert Kupchynsky of Dallas, TX bounced back from a shaky start with a two-under-par, 70. They trail the leaders by six strokes.
Steven Hudson of Vestavia Hills, AL and Brad Kropp of Fort Worth, TX made four birdies on the front side including both par fives. Despite making two bogies on the back, they had five birdies to counter them. Their seven-under-par round was the low of the day in the Senior Division and vaulted them to the top of the leaderboard with a two shot cushion.
Laying chase are two teams that finished at eight-under after 36 holes, Mark Martin from Sebastopol, CA and Paul Weinhold of Eugene, OR and Tom Musselman of Scottsdale, AZ and Paul Balatti of Windsor, CA. Martin and Weinhold’s six-under-par round was the next lowest round in the division and kept the team within striking distance of the lead. Musselman and Balatti made seven birdies and two bogies for a five-under round.
First round leaders Kip Estep of Rockwall, TX and Don Gafner of Dallas, TX shot a second round, even par. They trail Hudson and Kropp by five headed to the final round.
Dave Sheff of Laguna Nigue, CA and Rich Tolly of Dana Point, CA vaulted up the Super Senior Leaderboard with a six-under-par second round highlighted by an eagle from Sheff on the seventh hole. The added six birdies and a bogey in the round to grab a one shot lead.
In second are Albert Huddleston of Carrollton, TX and Paul Simson of Raleigh, NC trail by one despite shooting even par for the second round. The duo was two-under-par when they started play on the par three, 17th. They made a bogey there and a bogey on the final hole to finish even.
Following the second round, each division featured a cut. The Mid-Am Division was cut to low 20 teams and ties with teams shooting two-over-par, 146 or better to make the cut. In the Senior Division, 20 teams and ties made the cut with two-over-par, 146 being the number to qualify for the final round. The Super Senior Division was cut to the low eight teams and ties with five-over-par, 149 being the cut line.
The Final Round of the Trans-Miss Four-Ball at Mayacama Golf Club will begin at 8:00am off the first and tenth tee. Mid-Am leaders will tee off at 10:00 and Senior leaders will tee off at 9:50. For more information, click here. For complete scoring, please click here.
