The club, just north of San Francisco in California’s wine country, was founded in 1999 and the course opened for play in 2001. A golf course set within 675 acres of rolling hillsides, majestic live oaks, sweeping meadows of native grasses, is a Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course. Covered with oaks, madrone and manzanita, the land is soaked in deep shade in the morning and glows in the golden light of the late afternoon. With continuously undulating terrain, hills and meadows, it offers the ideal conditions for what Nicklaus calls a modern classic. Designed for walking, Mayacama's classic layout rewards strategic play and, while not praising mediocre shots, won't unfairly penalize them either. Measuring 6,761 yards from the back tees, the par 72 championship layout is entirely sand-capped making its meticulously groomed, tournament-conditioned turf playable year round.
