ENTRY ELIGIBILITY, PROCEDURE & INFORMATION
Entries are open to male amateur golfers who have reached their 55th birthday on or before the first round of competition (May 15th, 2018). Applicants must have a USGA handicap index of 4.0 or less. The Super Senior Division is open to male amateur golfers who have reached their 65th birthday on or before the first round of competition. Applicants in the Super Senior Division must have a USGA handicap index of 10.0 or less. The Legends Division is open to male amateur golfers who have reached their 70th birthday on or before the first round of competition. Applicants in the Legends Division must have a USGA handicap index of 12.0 or less. All tournament applicants must be a member of a Trans-Miss Member Club or make an annual contribution ($100) to the Trans-Miss Golf Association and Turf Scholarship Fund.
[New for 2018] Mid-Master Division: A division has been added to compliment the field, which will feature top Mid-Amateurs who have reached their 40th birthday on or before the first round of competition (May 15th, 2018). Applicants must have a USGA handicap index of 2.0 or less at the time of entry.
Entries will be accepted in the order they are received at the discretion of the Trans-Mississippi Senior & Mid-Master Championship Committee. If a particular division is not full by Wednesday, March 21st and there is a wait list in another division, spots in the field may be filled by those players on the wait list. For more information, see the applicable Championship Policies and Procedures. Tournament entries will open on Thursday, March 1st at 9:00 am (CST) and will close on Wednesday, May 2nd at 5:00 pm (CST).
EXEMPTIONS
All exempt players who meet the criteria outlined below are required to register before Wednesday, March 21st at 5:00 pm (CST).
- Past Champions in each division for the previous five (5) Trans-Mississippi Senior Championships;
- Top 15 Finishers (and ties) in the previous year’s Senior Division;
- Top 8 Finishers (and ties) in the previous year’s Super Senior Division;
- Past Champions in the previous five (5) U.S. Senior Amateur Championships;
- Competitors making the final field of the previous year’s U.S. Senior Open;
- Competitors making the final field in the previous year’s U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship;
- Trans-Mississippi Golf Association/Host Club Selections.
FORMAT, FIELD SIZE & DIVISIONS
The championship will be contested over 54 holes of individual stroke play with four (4) divisions; Mid-Master, Senior, Super Senior and Legends. Each division will play from separate tees/yardages and separate champions will be recognized in each division.
The field is limited to 144 competitors, with four (4) divisions as outlined below. Please note that if the field size exceeds 90 competitors, there will be a cut at the conclusion of 36 holes of play, based on a pro-rated representation from each division. See ‘Field Cut’ and Note below for additional details.
Mid-Master 40 & Over (18 players)
Senior 55 & Over (72 players)
Super Senior 65 & Over (42 players)
Legends 70 & Over (12 players)
Field Cut: Provided that the starting field size exceeds 90 competitors, at the conclusion of 36 holes the field will be cut to the low 78 players and ties, with a pro-rated representation from each division. The pro-rated allocation of players making the cut from each division will be reflective of the number of players in each division, relative to the total field size. The determination of total field size, number of players in each division and pro-rated representation of players making the cut (before ties) will be announced in conjunction with pairings being posted.
Note: If a particular division is not full by Wednesday, March 21st and there is a wait list in another division, spots in the field may be filled by those players on the wait list.
CHAMPIONSHIP REGISTRATION
All competitors must register with Trans-Mississippi Golf Association staff prior to the start of the championship. Players that do not register may be subject to disqualification. Official tournament registration will be held at Desert Forest Golf Club on Monday, May 14th from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Competitors who are unable to register on the date and time listed above must contact Trans-Mississippi Golf Association staff in advance of the Championship.
OFFICIAL PRACTICE ROUND
Players are limited to one (1) complementary practice round on the designated practice round date. All confirmed competitors should contact the golf shop at Desert Forest Golf Club at (480) 488-4589, no earlier than Tuesday, May 8th, to schedule a practice round for Monday, May 14th. Please be advised that the golf course will close at 6:00 pm for maintenance and the player reception on Monday evening.
PLAYER RECEPTION
All competitors are invited to attend a reception on Monday, May 14th at Desert Forest Golf Club. All reception costs, including hors d’oeuvres and beverages are included in the entry fee. The reception will begin at 6:30 pm. Acceptable dress code for the reception is golf attire (shorts are permitted).
STARTING TIMES/PAIRINGS
Starting times/pairings for the first and second rounds will be made available no later than Thursday, May 10th at 5:00 pm. Copies will also be distributed at registration, in the Trans-Mississippi Tournament Office and in the Golf Shop on Monday, May 14th. Final round starting times/pairings will be available in the evening preceding play at approximately 7:00 pm online at www.trans-miss.org, in the Trans-Mississippi Tournament Office and the Golf Shop. Final round starting times will be re-drawn based on total score following the second round of play.
HOST HOTELS
The Trans-Mississippi Golf Association, in partnership with Affinity Travel Benefits, have provided multiple accommodation options for players competing in the Trans-Miss Senior & Mid-Master Championship. Please note that players must make reservations directly through the online portal in advance of the resevation deadlines established by each property.
TRANSPORTATION/CADDIES
Players may walk or ride at their own discretion. Caddies are permitted, but are not guaranteed a cart seat. Cart fees for the tournament are included in the entry fee. Carts are limited to two (2) riders at a time, and a maximum of two (2) carts per group. Please note that once players have signed and attested their scorecards with Trans-Miss Staff, they are asked to promptly return their cart to the staging area to assist the host club in cart management.
CLUBHOUSE FACILITIES
The Clubhouse facilities at Desert Forest Golf Club will be open daily at 6:30 am. Player’s will be responsible for breakfast/lunch purchased on the practice round day. Breakfast and lunch are provided for all three days of the championship and are included with each competitor’s entry fee for the championship. Guests may dine with players, but will be charged the appropriate cost for the same meal. Acceptable forms of payment in the Desert Forest Golf Club Clubhouse will be distributed to players in advance of the championship.
All other food and beverage consumed will be at the competitor’s expense – breakfast and lunch options will be available for purchase as noted above; all charges will include appropriate gratuity charge and sales tax.
PRACTICE FACILITIES
Practice Facilities at Desert Forest Golf Club will be available to all competitors for the duration of the Championship. The practice facilities will open Monday, May 14th at 7:30 am and throughout each championship round, beginning one hour prior to the first starting time. The practice range will close one hour before dusk for maintenance.
LOCKERS & CLUB STORAGE
Lockers and club storage will not be available during the Championship, however all players may utilize the Locker Room Facilities on a day-use basis. Players are asked to use the Locker Room when changing attire or shoes and refraining from doing so in the parking lot.
CONDITIONS OF COMPETITION
The Trans-Mississippi Code of Conduct and Dress Code are in effect throughout the championship. Violations will be dealt with based on the severity of the misconduct. GROOVE CONDITION OF COMPETITION
The groove conditions of competition that were made effective on January 1st, 2010 by the USGA are not in effect for this championship.
DISTANCE-MEASURING DEVICES
The optional condition as prescribed (see Appendix I, page 153) is in effect for the championship, for devices that measure distance only.
WITHDRAWAL/NO SHOW POLICY
If you find you cannot compete in the championship, you must officially withdraw from the event by contacting Trans-Mississippi Staff at (214) 468-8942, ext. 126 or by emailing ccrawford@trans-miss.org. If you do not officially withdraw, you may be subject to DISQUALIFICATION from future Trans-Mississippi Championships. Any player withdrawing prior to May 2nd at 5:00 pm will receive a full refund, less a $25 administrative fee. Any withdrawals after the May 2nd deadline will not be entitled to receive a refund, unless a spot is filled by an alternate player on the wait list.
