Notice to Players
100th WPGA  Father & Son Championship

Conducted by the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association

Monday, July 15, 2024 - Pittsburgh Field Club, Pittsburgh, PA

 

 

This notice serves as confirmation for the 2024 WPGA Father & Son Championship and the 2024 Parent & Child Net Championship to be played at the Pittsburgh Field Club in Pittsburgh, PA. This will be a shotgun start at 12:30 PM. Practice facilities and the locker rooms will open at 10:00 AM, and lunch will be available from 10:30 AM until 12:15 PM. The halfway house will be open for players during the round, please note this is cash only. 

 

At least one member of each group is required to download the Golf Genius scoring app prior to arrival. The group's GGID will be provided on the scorecard.  

 

Format: 18 holes of Chapman Format stroke play. Play is governed by the USGA Rules of Golf and any Local Rules and Conditions distributed. In the event of a tie for first place in the Father-Son Gross Division, a hole-by-hole playoff will take place on holes determined by the committee.

 

Chapman Format:  Each player plays their shot from the teeing ground.  For the next shot, Player A will hit Player Bs ball and Player B will hit Player As ball.  After this exchange the Team will select the ball in the best position and alternate hitting shots until the ball is holed.  For fathers with two sons participating: the father will hit one tee shot.  Each son will play from that spot by either playing the ball at rest or if the second player - by dropping a ball within one club length of the original ball no closer to the hole.  The father will play each of his son's tee shots.  Then select the ball of each team in the best position and alternate shots until one ball for each team is holed. 

 

Tee Markers:  Play will be from the WPGA White Tee Markers for the Gross Father & Son Division. Play will be from the WPGA Blue Tee Markers for the Parent & Child Net Division. Women playing in the Parent & Child Net Division will play from the Red Field Club tee markers. 

 

Pace of Play: The maximum allowable time will be four hours and twenty minutes (4:20). A checkpoint system will be in place.

 

Practice: Practice rounds are not available.  

 

Transportation/Caddies: Carts are permitted and included in the entry fee. If you would like to take a caddie, please contact the Golf Shop at 412-963-7700. Caddie fees are the responsibility of the player.

 

Food: Lunch is included and will be available prior to the start of the round.

 

Footwear:   Model Local Rule G-7 Prohibiting the Use of Certain Types of Shoes is in effect.  Shoes with traditional metal spikes or spikes of any design that are partially or entirely made of metal are prohibited.

 

Lodging: Lodging of various price ranges can be found in the Aspinwall or RIDC Park area. 

 

Evacuation Plan:  In the event of a suspension of play for a dangerous situation, all players are to immediately return to the clubhouse. WPGA staff and volunteers will assist in the evacuation.

 

NOTE:  A suspension of play for a dangerous situation will be signaled by one prolonged air horn note.  All other suspensions of play will be signaled by three consecutive air horn notes.  Resumption of play will be signaled by two short air horn notes.

 

Spectator Info: No spectator carts will be permitted for the round without pre-approved ADA verification. Please contact the WPGA office for ADA guidelines.
