2024 U.S. Amateur Local Qualifying

Monday, June 24, 2024 - Sunnehanna Country Club


 

This notice serves as confirmation for the 2024 U.S. Amateur Local Qualifying Rounds on Monday, June 24, 2024 at Sunnehanna Country Club. Qualifying is 36-holes and the field is 144 players. The number of spots the field is playing for is fourteen (14) spots and two (2) alternates. Additional information will be distributed on the starting tees. The locker room and practice facility will open at 7:00 AM the day of the qualifying rounds.

 

At least one member of the grouping is encouraged to download the Golf Genius scoring app prior to arrival. The groupings GGID will be provided on the first tee.

 

Format: 18-holes of stroke play. Play is governed by The Rules of Golf and any Local Rules and Conditions distributed at the starting tee. In the event of a tie for the final qualifying spot or any alternate, a hole-by-hole playoff will take place on holes to be determined by the Committee.

 

For all USGA Qualifying, the use of distance measuring devices to measure distance only is permitted.

 

Model Local Rules G-4 (also known as the One Ball Rule) is not in effect for any USGA qualifying rounds in 2023.

 

Model Local Rules G-11 (Restricting use of Green-Reading Materials) and Model Local Rules G-12 (Prohibiting Use of Materials to Help Read Line of Play from Putting Green) are not in effect for U.S. Amateur Qualifying. The interpretation on the limitation of green-reading materials in Clarification 4.3a/1 (Restrictions on Using Equipment to Gauge Slope), which limits the size and scale of putting green maps, is still in effect as a part of the 2023 Rules of Golf. Tee Markers: All play is from the USGA tee markers. The course will play par 70 at 6941 yards depending on conditions and is subject to change.

 

Pace of Play: The maximum allowable time will be four hours and twenty minutes (4:20). A checkpoint system will be in place for the qualifying rounds.

 

Practice: Practice rounds are available and must be pre-arranged by contacting the golf shop at (814)-255-3106. The Golf Professional is Mr. John Klinchock. Practice rounds are available at the discretion of the golf shop. The practice round fee is $75 if the player walks. The cart fee is $38 if the player rides. Practice round fees are the responsibility of the player. Practice range balls are complimentary the morning of the competition.

 

Transportation/Caddies: Walking is required. Please contact the golf shop if you would like to employ a club caddie. Players may bring their own caddies. Caddies must walk in performance of their duties during the qualifying round. Players are permitted to use push trolleys for the qualifying round.

 

Food: All food and beverage charges are the responsibility of the player. 

 

Footwear: Model Local Rule G-7 Prohibiting Use of Certain Types of Shoes is in effect. Shoes with traditional spikes or spikes of any design that are entirely or partially made of metal are prohibited.

 

Lodging: Lodging of various price ranges can be found in the Johnstown and Richland areas.

 

Evacuation Plan: In the event of a suspension of play for a dangerous situation, all players are to immediately return to the clubhouse. WPGA staff and volunteers will assist in the evacuation.

 

Note: A suspension for a dangerous situation will be signaled by one prolonged air horn note. All other types of suspension will be signaled by three consecutive air horn notes, repeated. Resumption of play will be signaled by two short air horn notes, repeated.

 

Spectator Info: No spectator carts will be permitted for the qualifying rounds without pre-approval. Please contact the WPGA office for more information.
