U.S. Senior Open Qualifier

FIELD

132 players maximum

FORMAT &

QUALIFYING PLACES

18 holes of individual stroke play for 4 qualifying spots and 2 alternate spots in the 2024 U.S. Senior Open Championship to be played June 27-30 at Newport Country Club in Newport, RI.

PRACTICE ROUNDS

One practice round per player and practice rounds are for players only. Practice rounds will be available on the designated dates and times below. Please call Cherokee T&CC  at 770-993-4401 to reserve your practice round starting time. Practice round cart and range fee is $50 (plus tax) and must be paid regardless of whether or not the player chooses to walk or ride.  Cash or credit cards will be the accepted method of payment in the golf shop.

 

Please note the following times to reserve a practice round.  Players must call the pro shop and reserve a time based on availability in the specific time frame:

 

  • Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: anytime based on availability
  • Friday – Sunday: after 2:00pm based on availability
  • May 13, for players who live more than 50 miles from the club

CARTS

Practice round cart and range fees are $50 (plus tax). Cash or credit cards will be the accepted method of payment. During the qualifying round, a caddie may transport a player’s bag on a cart for a fee of $30 (plus tax).  Push/pull carts are prohibited.  Spectator carts are strictly prohibited in all instances.

YARDAGES & TEES

Yardages are approximate and may be adjusted due to inclement weather or other factors that may affect the playing conditions during the competition. A yardage sheet is available in event portal and at the club.

GOLF SHOP &

DRIVING RANGE:

The golf shop and practice range will open by 6:30 a.m. the morning of qualifying.

STARTING TIMES

Starting times for tournament play will be assigned by the USGA/GSGA and will be posted at the club the day before the qualifying round. You may visit www.gsga.org for complete pairing information and starting times starting May 5. 

REGISTRATION

NO formal registration will be held on site.  Players should arrive to their assigned starting tee ten minutes before their starting time to allow for the starter to go over instructions and rules of play. Player withdraws must be called in to the GSGA office at (678) 324-5969 or e-mailed to jfages@gsga.org 

CADDIES

Players may provide their own caddie.  Caddies are available from the host club.  Arrangements may be made by contacting Dwight Bartlett, Golf Outside Services Manager at dbartlett@cherokeetcc.org or by calling (770) 993-4407.

RULES OF PLAY/PACE OF PLAY/CART POLICY

The USGA Rules of Play and GSGA Pace of Play Policies shall be in effect. Click here to view policies.

PREFERRED LIES

Per the USGA, for all USGA Championships and qualifying rounds, the following policy is in effect: A Local Rule authorizing “Preferred Lies” or “Winter Rules” is NEVER permitted.

PERSONAL APPEARANCE

In Sectional Qualifying stages and the Championship proper, players must be neat in appearance with respect to clothing and personal grooming. The Committee in charge decides whether this requirement has been met, and has the authority to withdraw the entry of a player who does not comply.

FOOD & BEVERAGE SERVICE

Food and beverage service will be available at the halfway house.  CASH or CREDIT CARDS will be accepted for F&B purchases.

PRIZES

A silver medal will be presented to the low scorer at the conclusion of the qualifying rounds.
