Terms of Competition
ELIGIBILITY
The Maine Women’s Amateur Championship is open to Maine resident amateurs. All players must have a Handicap Index® at a Maine Golf member club and must be in good standing as members of that club on or before the date they submit their application. College students, who attend college in Maine but are not Maine residents, are not eligible to compete. Exceptions include the following:
- Non-residents who have been members of Maine Golf-affiliated clubs for 10 years and who reside in Maine for at least three months annually are also eligible.
- Active-duty service members who are stationed in Maine, live here, and hold membership at a Maine Golf member club are also eligible.
A competitor’s handicap index must be equal to or lower than 36.0.
FORMAT
The Maine Women’s Amateur is a three-day tournament featuring individual stroke play. Players will compete for the amateur championship and in four gross flights.
ENTRY INFORMATION
All players must file an entry for the championship. Players must apply for the championship online via Golf Genius, the software Maine Golf uses to conduct tournaments. All players on a team must have a Golf Genius account prior to registration.
Carts can be reserved using credit card only.
The field will be limited to 120 players. If the tournament fills up prior to the close of entry, players will still be allowed to register. If necessary, after the registration deadline has passed, the field will be narrowed to the 120 players with the lowest handicap indexes. Maine Golf has the final say in determining the field for the championship.
Entry fee: **$125; carts are additional for players who choose to ride.
Entry deadline: June 28, 2023 at 11:59 p.m.
** The entry fee charged to each player will be determined by the number of rounds played (minimum of 2 rounds). Players who play 3 days will be charged $125 for the event. Players who play 2 days will be charged $90 for the event. All entries will be held in “pending status” in Golf Genius until the cut is made following round 2. Adjustments to entry fees will be made prior to processing payments.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
The championship will consist of 54 holes of stroke play. The field will be cut after 36 holes to the low 50% of field and ties.
Monday, July 17: First round, 18 holes
Tuesday, July 18: Second round, 18 holes
Wednesday, July 19: Final round, 18 holes (Low 50% of field plus ties)
In the event of a tie for the overall championship, the winner will be decided immediately by a hole-by-hole playoff.
PRIZES
There will be 5 competitive flights...
- Flight 1: 0 – 8.9
- Flight 2: 9 – 13.9
- Flight 3: 14 – 18.9
- Flight 4: 19 – 23.9
- Flight 5: 24+
Flight winners of flights 1-3 will be determined after round 3. Flight winners of flights 4-5 will be determined after round 2. Awards will be determined by the number of players in each flight. All players, regardless of flight, will be eligible to play round 3 if they make the cut. The cut will be the lowest 50% of the scores following round 2, plus ties.
Winner: Trophy, prize money, and title of 2023 Maine Women’s Amateur Champion.
Runner Up: Trophy and prize money
Players cannot win more than one award for the tournament.
EXEMPTIONS
A player who does not meet eligibility requirements but has a history of championship play or significant special circumstances may appeal to the Maine Golf Women's Tournament Committee for entry consideration.
RULES OF GOLF
All play will be governed by The Rules of Golf as approved by the USGA, except as modified by Local Rules. The on-site Rules Committee will have the final authority on all rulings. The competition is deemed to be closed when the trophy is awarded to the champion.
TRANSPORTATION
Players will be allowed to use motorized carts in the championship. Carts may be limited at certain sites, so players should plan accordingly. Cart reservations should be made during registration, credit card only (no voucher funds). No more than two carts are allowed in any pairing.
WITHDRAWAL AND REFUND POLICY
Players may withdraw from championships via Golf Genius or by reaching out to Maine Golf staff. Maine Golf will refund all of the entry fee, less $25 to cover processing fees and associated costs, if the withdrawal occurs beyond one week from the first round of the tournament. Refunds of entries made by credit or debit card will be applied to the same card used for payment.
No refunds will be issued within one week of the first round of any championship. Unusual circumstances will be considered individually and are at the discretion of Maine Golf.
STARTING TIMES
After the application deadline, starting times will be posted at Maine Golf website, as well as emailed to all players in the field. Starting times will be made public no less than four days before the tournament begins.
CONDITIONS AND SCHEDULES
The Maine Golf Tournament Committee and/or Rules Committee on site reserves the right to alter any of the conditions, provisions, and/or schedules herein. The decision of the Tournament Committee and/or Rules Committee in any matter is final.
PRACTICE PRIVILEGES
Practice rounds can be scheduled through the Brunswick pro shop any time. $35 walking.
