Memorandum to Contestants

Thank you for entering the 7th Annual Couples Championship. We welcome you as a contestant and trust your experience playing in an event conducted by the Wyoming State Golf Association will be enjoyable and one you will always remember.

 

The following information will help answer questions and explain many details before arriving in Hulett.  Please keep this memorandum for reference.

Practice Rounds

If desired, those entered may contact The Golf Club at Devils Tower to arrange a practice round.  Practice rounds are complimentary for registered competitors only.

 

Handicaps

Handicaps will be updated and locked on July 10th.  Your handicap for the event will be your July 10th Handicap.

 

Format – Best Ball/Shamble/Chapman/Scramble

Round 1 – Front 9 – Best BallPlayers play their own ball and count the best score on each hole.

                   Back 9 – ShambleBoth players tee off and select the best drive, from the drive both players will play their own ball into the hole.  Each players drive must be used a minimum of 2 times.

 

Round 2 – Front 9 – ChapmanBoth players tee off, then switch balls for the second shot, and then select the best ball and alternate shots until the ball is holed.

                   Back 9 – ScrambleEach players drive must be used a minimum of 2 times.

 

Personal Effects

Please take care of your valuables.  Neither The Golf Club at Devils Tower nor the WSGA can assume responsibility for articles lost or stolen.

 

Dress Code

All players must comply with the club dress code:  Collared shirt, blouse w/collar or sleeves, Bermuda length shorts.  NO Denim, T-Shirts, Cut-offs or Athletic Shorts.  Alternative Spikes are required.

 

Caddies and Carts

Carts have been prepaid with your entry for Saturday and Sunday Rounds

 

Starting Times

It is your responsibility to be at the starting tee early.  An official clock will be present on the First and Tenth Tee with unofficial clocks in the practice area.

Day 1 Format

Best Ball/Shamble

 

Front 9 - Best BallPlayers play their own ball and count the best score on each hole.

Handicap – Each player will receive 85% of their course handicap.

 

Back 9Shamble - Both players tee off and select the best drive, from the drive both players will play their own ball into the hole, counting the best score on each hole.  Each player’s drive must be used a minimum of 2 times

Handicap – Each player will receive 65% of their course handicap.

 

Handicaps are based of the July 10th Handicap revision. Percentages for the Best Ball and Shamble are based off recommendations from the new USGA Handicap Allowances Table located in the USGA Rules of Handicapping Book.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

Day 2 Format

Chapman / Scramble

Front 9 – Chapman – Both players tee off, then switch balls for the second shot.  After the second shot, players should then select the best ball and alternate shots until the ball is holedA player should not hit the same ball two times in a row.

Handicap – The lowest handicap player will receive 60% of their course handicap and the higher handicap player will receive 40% of their course handicap.

 

Back 9 – Scramble – Each player’s drive must be used a minimum of 2 times.  A ball may be moved up to a club length, except on the green, where it can be moved only the length a putter head.  The ball can never be moved closer to the hole and must stay in its current cut of grass or penalty area.  Example, a ball cannot be moved from the rough to the fairway or from the fringe to the green.

Handicap – the lowest handicap player will receive 35% of their course handicap and the higher handicap player will receive 15% of their course handicap.
