History of the Curtis Bowl Scotch Tournament:
The first Curtis Bowl Scotch Tournament was played at Essex Country Club in 1956 and won by the team of Prunaret – Nicolls. This year’s defending champions are the team of Cathy Flatley & Frances Rush.
Format:
- One partner must play first from the teeing area of all odd numbered holes, while the other partner must play first on all even numbered holes. After the side’s first stroke from the teeing area, the partners must alternate strokes for the rest of the hole.
- 18 holes of Scotch format
- Gross and Net competition
Handicaps: Handicap Index® not exceeding 54.0 as of May 26, 2023. Players with a Handicap Index higher than 36.0 will be limited to a 36.0 Playing Handicap.
Tees: Mass Golf Red Tees from ~5,033 yards.
Shotgun Time: Refer to pairings and starting hole assignments.
10:00 AM Shotgun Time
9:50 AM – All golfers to be ready at their carts.
Scorecards: Paper scorecards will be provided to all participants for the player’s own notes. All paper scorecards are considered UNOFFICIAL. The official scorecard will be the mobile Golf Genius app scoring. Prior to the tournament, players should download the Golf Genius app. Click HERE for mobile scoring instructions. You will be provided a GGID number on your scorecards and that is the number you type into the app to see your foursome and enter scores.
Practice Areas: The driving range and putting green will be accessible before play starting at 8:00 AM. The driving range is located in the upper parking lot. The practice putting green is next to the driving range. Please return carts immediately following the shotgun.
Pace of Play: Pace for this round is 4 hours and 30 minutes. Please ensure that you are keeping within a hole of the group in front of you.
Scoring: At the end of the round all scores must be verified by the team before your team’s designated app scorekeeper and unofficial written scorekeeper reports to the scoring tent. Mass Golf staff will verify with the designated scorekeepers that their scores are accurate and will take a verbal yes as a confirmation/signature.
Awards: The Curtis Bowl Scotch has a permanent trophy that will be engraved with the names of the low gross winners. All ties will be decided by a matching of cards in accordance with USGA recommended method. Prize Certificates (gross & net places) will be given out and must be redeemed at South Shore Country Club.
Rules of Golf: The USGA® Rules of Golf, Local Rules and Terms of Competitions for Mass Golf Tournaments govern all play.
Mass Golf Policies & Procedures: Please refer to Policies & Procedures and Pace of Play Policy.
Distance-Measuring Devices: Permitted as specified in Mass Golf Policies & Procedures.
Bathrooms: Bathrooms are located in the Clubhouse, Locker Room, 6th green, 12th hole, and 9th green by the cart barn.
Water and Snacks: Water stations are available at multiple locations throughout the course on holes 1, 10, 12, 16 as well as at the halfway house and beverage cart. Cash Only at the halfway house and beverage cart and Credit cards are accepted.
Food and Beverage: There will be boxed lunches available starting at 11:00 a.m. inside of the clubhouse at he Greenside Grille. Boxed lunches consist of a Greek Chicken Wrap or Turkey Club, a piece of whole fruit, chips, and freshly baked cookie water and soda are available. A vegan option is available upon request.
The halfway house will be open throughout the round. The beverage cart will be available beginning at 9:30 a.m. near the registration area. CASH ONLY. Alcoholic Beverages can be purchased in the Clubhouse at the Greenside Grille with cash or credit card.
Additional Information: Practice rounds are available Monday through Thursday anytime and after 2:00 p.m. Friday through Sunday. There is a mandatory $22.00 cart fee. Pro Shop (781)-749-1747.
