MEMORANDUM TO PLAYERS


 

FORMAT, QUALIFYING PLACES, AND TIES

  • FORMAT. This qualifier is a one-day, 18-hole stroke play competition.
  • QUALIFYING SPOTS. The field of 84 contestants will compete for 5 qualifying places and 2 alternate positions.
  • PLAYOFF. A hole-by-hole playoff will be used to break a tie for the final qualifying spot, first alternate, and/or second alternate. All announcements regarding the play-off will be made at the scoring area immediately upon completion of play.

 

STARTING TIMES
Click here to view the starting times and pairings, as assigned by the USGA. The NYSGA is unable to accommodate starting time requests/changes.

PRO SHOP, PRACTICE FACILITIES
The golf shop and practice facilities will open at 7:00am. Range balls are complimentary and available on the practice tee adjacent to the pro shop.

COURSE SETUP
Play will be from the rated black tees measured to approximately 6,660 yards (72.5/133).

REGISTRATION AND START OF PLAY
Players may (but aren't required to) register in the golf shop to confirm their starting time. Players should report to the 1st tee ten (10) minutes prior to their starting time.


PRACTICE ROUNDS
Practice rounds are available and may be scheduled by contacting the host club at 518-274-4207. The rate is $50 and includes use of a cart and the club’s practice facilities.

PUSH CARTS
The use of a push cart is approved for this qualifier - if you;d like to rent one from the club, please contact the pro shop to see if one is available. Electronic golf bag carts are permitted if there is no seat attachment.

FOOD SERVICE

There is no food service available at Troy on Monday so please plan accordingly. The NYSGA will provide water and snacks on the 1st and 10th tees.

CADDIES
A competitor may bring his own caddie or carry his own clubs. There are no caddies available through the host club. A caddie is required to wear an NYSGA caddie bib, which will be provided at starting during announcements.

 

LIVE SCORING
Live scoring will be utilized via the Golf Genius mobile app - players are instructed to download via their smartphone's app store (search "Golf Genius") in advance of their arrival to their starting hole.

LOCAL RULES AND CONDITIONS
Listed below are a number of important Conditions of Competition and Local Rules for this qualifier.

  • USGA LOCAL RULES AND TERMS OF THE COMPETITION (HARD CARD). Click here.
  • GROOVE CONDITION. The players’ clubs must conform to the grooves and punch mark specifications in The Rules of Golf that are effective from January 1, 2010.  See Model Local Rule G-2. The exception for Ping Eye2 Irons manufactured before March 31, 1990 is not in effect. (click here).
  • CONFORMING BALLS AND DRIVER HEADS. Visit the USGA website for a list of approved golf balls (click here) and driver heads (click here).
  • "ONE BALL RULE". The “One Ball" Condition will be in effect.
  • DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES. The use of a distance measuring device during the qualifying round is permitted.


PROHIBITING USE OF MOTORIZED TRANSPORTATION (LOCAL RULE G-6)
Players must not ride on any form of transportation during a stipulated round unless authorized by the Committee. The optional condition prescribed in Section 8 of the Committee Procedures is in effect will be in effect. A breach will result in the general penalty, two-strokes, on each hole where the breach occurred.

REQUESTING USE OF A CART
A disabled player or caddie may be permitted to use a golf cart as an accommodation to his or her ability. As required by the ADA, the USGA will evaluate such requests on a case-by-case basis. To learn more and to submit the required form,

A disabled spectator may be permitted to use a golf cart. As required by the ADA, the NYSGA will evaluate such requests on a case-by-case basis. To complete and return the required form,

WITHDRAWAL FROM QUALIFYING
To withdraw, notify the USGA (complete
this online form, call 908-326-1950, or e-mail champs@usga.org) and the Official in Charge (see below) prior to the scheduled qualifying round. Failure to do so may result in disqualification from future USGA competitions.

PACE OF PLAY
It is a condition that players must play without undue delay in accordance with guidelines established by the Committee.

EVACUATION PLAN
In the event of a discontinuance of play during the qualifier, players must adhere to the evacuation plan distributed by the Committee at their starting tee.
