115th Amateur Championship

Entry Fee: $175.00
Entries Open: 3/8/2023 at 10:00am
Entries Close: 5/11/2023 at 5:00pm
Eligibility:
- Any amateur golfers who have an active Mass Golf Membership.
- Handicap Index® not exceeding 4.4 (at the time of registration).
- Have played and posted 5 rounds at any Mass Golf member club/course within 12 months of the entry close date.
Entry Procedures:
Entries and fully paid entry fees must be received through the Mass Golf Online Entry process by 5:00pm EST on the published entry deadline.
Format:
Competition will be in two stages;
1. Sectional Qualifying - 18 Holes at Stroke Play (For all except Exempt entrants).
2. Championship Proper - 36 Holes at Stroke Play followed by Match Play (32 Qualifiers).
Field:
The Championship Proper field is limited to 144 players (approx.; based on qualifying ties).
Exemptions (Upon receipt of the online registration and fee, the players in the following categories are exempt from Sectional Qualifying); 2023 Massachusetts Amateur Exemptions
Schedule:
Sectional Qualifying - May 30 - June 22
Championship Proper
Round 1 - July 10 (18 Holes)
Round 2 - July 11 (18 Holes)
***The low 32 scorers will advance to Match Play on July 12. A tie for the final qualifying place(s) will be determined by a hole-by-hole playoff.
Match Play - General Numeric Draw will be used. For purposes of determining places in the draw, ties in qualifying rounds will be decided by the order in which scores are returned, except that places of those participating in a play-off will be determined by performance in the play-off and if necessary, a blind draw.
Round of 32 (AM) - July 12
Round of 16 (PM) - July 12
Quarterfinals (AM) - July 13
Semifinals (PM) - July 13
Finals (AM/PM) - July 14 (36 Holes)
In the event of a tied match, (a) the winner shall be decided immediately by a hole-by-hole play-off, and (b) the stipulated round is deemed to extend to as many holes as are required for a match to be won.
Caddies & Automotive Transportation:
Players may use caddies, pull carts (at the host clubs(s) discretion) and/or automotive transportation during Sectional Qualifying. Caddies and pull carts (at the host clubs(s) discretion) ONLY are permitted in the Championship Proper.
Food & Beverage:
A complimentary luncheon will be provided for all competitors on July 10 and throughout match play.
Starting Times:
Qualifying Round Starting Times & Player Information will be emailed to all competitors shortly after the close of entries.
Championship Proper Starting Times & Player Information will be emailed to all competitors shortly after the last qualifier.
Prizes:
The Massachusetts Cup will be presented to the Champion. Merchandise certificates will be awarded to the 32 Match Play Qualifiers and are only redeemable at the host site.
The Medalist(s) during the stroke play portion will be awarded the Harry B. McCracken, Jr. Medal.
Trophy:
The Massachusetts Cup will be presented to the Champion.
Practice Rounds:
Practice rounds privileges are at the discretion of the qualifying site and championship proper host club(s). Mass Golf will provide details surrounding the availability of practice rounds ahead of the scheduled event; please refrain from contacting the host clubs until specific details are received from Mass Golf.

Withdrawal & Refund Policy:
Competitors withdrawing from a championship/qualifier should notify a member of the Mass Golf staff as soon as practicable. Refunds may be processed based on the following criteria:
- Prior to entries closing, Entry fee minus a $30 administrative fee will be refunded.
- After entries close and more than thirteen days before the day of the event, 50% of entry fee will be refunded.
- Within thirteen days of the event, or on the day of the event, NO refund will be processed.
Refunds will not be processed for competitors advancing through a qualifier who subsequently need to withdraw from the championship proper. Exempt players may be refunded according to the criteria above. The Mass Golf staff respectfully asks that if a player knowingly needs to withdraw from an event, please do so as soon as possible – out of respect and as a courtesy to any players on a waitlist/alternate list.
