Terms of Competition
2022 Tri-State Matches
New Hampshire | June 13-15
ELIGIBILITY
The Women’s Tri-State Matches is open to female members of the MSGA. All competitors must play at an MSGA member club and have a Handicap Index® from that club on or before the date they submit their application.
To qualify for entry, an applicant must have played in three MSGA-affiliated tournaments between June 16, 2020 and May 5, 2021. All applicants must commit to two days of play, even in inclement weather. A practice round on Monday, June 13, is highly recommended, and attendance is mandatory at both the team meeting on Monday evening and the tournament banquet on Tuesday evening.
FORMAT
The championship is a 36-hole, team match play event played with handicaps over two days with two different formats. Thirty (30) Maine players and two alternates will be selected for the team. On day one, teammates will go out in sixsomes. Playing a Chapman alternate shot, both Maine players will tee off every hole, select a drive, and alternate shots until the ball is holed out. They will compete in two matches concurrently, one against New Hampshire and one against Vermont.
On day two, singles matches will be played in threesomes. The Maine player will compete in one match against New Hampshire and in another match against Vermont. Alternates must have a Handicap Index from 15.0 to 21.9. Caddies are not allowed.
Players compete in one of three divisions:
Division A: 0.0 to 14.9 10 players
Division B: 15.0 to 21.9 12 players
Division C: 22.0 to 30.0 8 players
ENTRY INFORMATION
All players must file an entry for the championship. The entry fee is covered by the MSGA and includes two rounds of golf with a cart, the Tuesday night banquet, and a team shirt. Players may apply for the championship online at www.mesga.org or at the MSGA women's portal. Entries will not be taken over the phone.
Consideration for selection may be given to applicants who have participated in past Tri-State events based on performance and sportsmanship and to players who demonstrate the spirit needed to win points. The emphasis will be on fielding a balanced and competitive group of players to make up the best possible team in all three divisions. The team is determined by a selection committee.
Entry Deadline: May 4, 2022 at 11:59 pm.
PRIZES
The Tri-State plaque will be awarded to the winning state and will be held by that state for one year.
