2022 Metropolitan Club Championship

Belgrade Lakes GC | June 20-21

 

 

ELIGIBILITY

The Metropolitan, our Club Team Championship, is open to all women golfers who are members of a Maine golf club affiliated with the Maine State Golf Association and are active in Maine GHIN. Guests are not allowed to play in championship or team events.

 

FORMAT
The Metropolitan Club Team Championship is a four-player team competition that features 18-hole stroke play in a best ball-of-four format. To be eligible for the overall championship prize of Metropolitan Club Team Champion, all four team members must be from the same club, and the team must record the lowest gross score over the two days of competition. Teams made up of members from different clubs may compete for gross and net prizes but are not eligible for the championship trophy.

 

Players will form their own 4-person teams and compete on either Monday or Tuesday. A player may play for only one team. Each team member will play at 90% of her course handicap. Individuals may also enter an optional skins competition for $5 in addition to the entry fee.

 

ENTRY INFORMATION

Each team must file a single, online entry for the championship. One team player will complete an application at www.mesga.org or at the MSGA women's portal. Entries will not be taken over the phone.

 

The team rep applies for either Monday or Tuesday competition. Keep in mind that play dates are not guaranteed, so players should make both days available in case reassignment is necessary to even out the fields.

 

The field for the Metropolitan Club Team Championship will be limited to 136 players (34 teams) each day. As a Club Team Championship, priority will be given to teams made up of 4 players from the same home club. If the field is not filled by club teams, then teams with players from multiple clubs (mixed teams) will be allowed to participate. 

If the tournament is oversubscribed after the registration deadline has passed, the two-day field will be narrowed to 68 teams using the following procedure:

 

  • All club teams will qualify unless more than 68 club teams apply.
  • If more than 68 club teams apply, the teams with the lowest aggregate team handicap indexes will qualify.
  • If fewer than 68 club teams apply, mixed teams with the lowest aggregate team handicap indexes will be added to the field. 

 

The field will be evenly split between Monday and Tuesday with 34 teams playing each day. Teams may select their preferred day of play, but must be available to play both days if one day proves more popular than the other. The MSGA has the final say in determining the field for this championship.

 

Entry Fee: $260 per team includes cart; $5 per person for optional skins. 

Entry Deadline: JUNE  1, 2022 (before midnight) 

 

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
All women will compete for the championship by playing only one 18-hole, best ball round at 90% handicap.

 

Monday, June 20:    18-hole stroke play, best ball of four
Tuesday, June 21:    18-hole stroke play, best ball of four

 

PRIZES

Members of the Metropolitan Club Championship team, with the overall low gross score after both days of competition, will receive individual crystal trophies and monetary awards to be added to their MSGA accounts. In the event of a two-way tie, the teams will be deemed co-champions. If more than two teams tie, a tiebreaker will decide the winner using USGA guidelines. The field will be divided into two flights, club team flight and mixed team flight.  After the second day of competition, gross and net prizes will be awarded based on the number of team entries within the flight and winnings will be added to the players’ MSGA accounts.

 

STARTING TIMES
Starting times will be posted at www.mesga.org and will be emailed to all players in the field on Friday, June 10.

 

RULES OF GOLF
All play will be governed by The Rules of Golf as approved by the USGA, except as modified by local rules. The on-site Rules Committee will have the final authority on all rulings.

 

TRANSPORTATION
Carts are mandatory at Belgrade. in the championship. Cart fee is included in the registration fee. Carts will be limited to two per team.

 

CONDITIONS AND SCHEDULES
The MSGA Tournament Committee/on-site Rules Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions, provisions, and/or schedules herein. The decision of these committees in any matter is final. 

 

WITHDRAWAL AND REFUND POLICY

Advanced entry fees will be refunded regardless of reason if the MSGA is notified before the close of entries. The MSGA will refund all the entry fee, less $5 to cover processing fees and associated costs. Refunds of entries made by credit or debit card will be applied to the same card used for payment. After the close of entries, fees will be refunded only if the tournament remains full or in the event of injury or illness. No refunds will be awarded after the start of the tournament. Unusual circumstances will be considered individually.
