ELIGIBILITY
The Maine Mid-Amateur Championship is open to Maine resident amateurs who have reached their 25th birthday on or before May 31, 2022. The championship is restricted to Maine resident amateurs, except that non-residents who have been members of MSGA-affiliated clubs for 10 years and who reside in Maine for at least five months annually are also eligible. Active duty service members who are stationed in Maine, live here, and hold membership with an MSGA-affiliated club are also eligible. All players must play at an MSGA member club and have a Handicap Index® from that club on or before the date they submit their application.
ENTRY INFORMATION
All players must file an entry for the championship. Players must apply for the championship online at www.mesga.org. Entries will not be taken over the phone.
The field will be comprised of the 132 players with the lowest handicap index who register before the application deadline.
We will use deferred payments for this championship. During registration, the player will need to include billing information with his application, but will only be charged if he is one of the 132 players to compete in the championship. This eliminates the sense of automatic inclusion once payment is received upon registration as in years past.
Cost: The entry fee for the championship is $120.
Entry deadline: May 10, 2022 at 11:59 pm.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
The championship will consist of two 18-hole rounds of stroke play.
Tuesday, May 31: First round, 18 holes
Wednesday, June 1: Second round, 18 holes
In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided immediately by a hole-by-hole playoff.
PRIZES
Winner: Crystal trophy and the title of Maine Mid-Amateur Champion.
Top finishers: Prize money, determined by finishing position, in the form of a voucher added to their MSGA account.
EXEMPTIONS
The 2022 Mid-Amateur will award three exemptions into the 2022 Maine Amateur Championship at Webhannet GC on July 12-14. The top three players not otherwise exempt will earn the exemptions provided they also finish in the top 20 of the entire field.
RULES OF GOLF
All play will be governed by The Rules of Golf as approved by the USGA, except as modified by Local Rules. The on-site Rules Committee will have the final authority on all rulings. The competition is deemed to be closed when the trophy is awarded to the champion.
TRANSPORTATION
Players will be allowed to use motorized carts in the championship. Carts may be limited at certain sites, so players should plan accordingly. Payment for cart rentals is made to the host club. No more than two carts are allowed in any pairing.
WITHDRAWAL AND REFUND POLICY
Advanced entry fees will be refunded regardless of reason if the MSGA is notified before the close of entries. The MSGA will refund all of the entry fee, less $5, to cover processing fees and associated costs. Refunds of entries made by credit or debit card will be applied to the same card used for payment. After the close of entries, fees will be refunded only if the tournament remains full or in the event of injury or illness. No refunds will be given after the start of the tournament. Unusual circumstances will be considered individually and are at the discretion of the MSGA.
STARTING TIMES
After the application deadline, starting times will be posted at www.mesga.org, as well as emailed to all players in the field. Starting times will be made public no less than four days before the tournament begins.
CONDITIONS AND SCHEDULES
The MSGA Tournament Committee/on-site Rules Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions, provisions, and/or schedules herein. The decision of the Tournament Committee/on-site Rules Committee in any matter is final.
